having any oil in your hair before flat iron?

I too think it's a matter of preference. I don't like my hair to feel weighed down but, depending on how much product you use and the temperature of the heat (flat iron), also the type of oil. I have use it with success before.
 
From what I read before, it's not the sizzle that you can hear that's the main problem, it's the sizzle within the shaft.

Doing this continually can cause damage over time. Doesn't someone like sistaslick have something on this?
 
Grapseed oil can withstand 400 °f/ 200°c
