Oh boy it\'s happening again...

I relax my hair and its about mid-back, while she is neutralizing it, it literally washes down the sink in clumps. I haven't had this dream in years. I have been completely natural since 01' and just got serious about "growing longer hair" last April.

Truth is, I have been debating on getting a relaxer, what is the best way to "get ready" to relax completely virgin hair? Just so I'll know. TIA

Re: Oh boy it\'s happening again...

Please, guys ...tell me. I can handle it. Do I need to reconstruct every week for four weeks or at least a week before the relaxer? Do I need to not wash it for the last two weeks? Should I wait to relax before/after my next menstrual cycle? Is motions really the best LYE relaxer?

Re: Oh boy it\'s happening again...

i really don't think any special treatment is required before a relaxer. i mean i have a relaxer, which means my hair has been previously damaged by relaxing, yet i don't do anything special to it prior to. i would say to continue with any deep conditionings that you do now.

the most important thing is the stylist and relaxer type. i can't recommend the Motions relaxer. i've heard too many varied reviews on it. the chief complaint being that it didn't straighten the hair evenly or enough in some areas. i really like the Affirm Lye.

Re: Oh boy it\'s happening again...

I used to always have dreams like that...

I don't have any advice but just wanted to wish you luck!

Re: Oh boy it\'s happening again...

thanks adrienne0914, I have heard good things about Affirm too. Your hair is absolutely stunnning. I can't imagine it ever being damaged. Just keep deep conditioning, got it.

Re: Oh boy it\'s happening again...

thanks, I know its complicated. A lot of relaxed sistahs are trying to go/grow natural. Maybe I should just leave it alone

Re: Oh boy it\'s happening again...

thanks for the compliment, A! believe it or not, it's a constant battle trying to keep the hair right. my issue right now (and for a while) is shedding and psoriasis. both can be bad. for instance, this morning, i had a big scale on my scalp. i use a small comb to get it off. with it comes about 10 hairs.

i saw your pics, girl. your hair is gorgeous. my honest opinion... "LEAVE IT ALONE!"

Re: Oh boy it\'s happening again...

yeah, I have 'relaxer' envy. It comes and it goes. I see hair like yours and think 'I have got to have that hair'!! LOL, thank for you the compliment. I just stopped my hair from shedding with my water, olive oil, biotin concoction (at least I think I did, I'll find out if it works in two days)...I will let everyone know what happens, maybe it will work for someone else too (if it works again for me)

Re: Oh boy it\'s happening again...

Your hair is lovely. I wish I could out grow my relaxer all the way and be natural. Find a good stylist to straighten your hair whenever you want it straight. It's nice to have that opinion to go curly one day and straight next. Once you relax it will take a long time to get back to curly. If you must relax consider just texturizing and relaxing the curls.

To my knowledge, there's really nothing to prepare for. However, you may want to take that dream as a warning...
