OFFICIAL SL 2009 HAIR CHALLENGE.........

Thanks!
I flat ironed my hair over the weekend and realized I am growing , but my hair lacks that sheen other naturals have after they flat iron...maybe I just need to up the DC's? Or use a better heat protectant? Anyway, I won't be flat iroinging again until the end of the challenge; so hopefully I can research some different techniques and products.

practice makes perfect! ;)

MissGee,

Best of luck on achieving your awesome present!

Yay! This is going to be the first challenge that I go at hard. I'm in the 2009 Bootcamp, but I gotta hit full Shoulder length by the end of my first two sessions in June. My birthday is ALSO in June.

Chemical Status: Natural
Current Length: Bottom of my neck with some strands touching collarbone.
Products:
Shampoo: Cream of Nature (green bottle). Baking soda.
Conditioner: Suave humectant (daily, every other day co-washes), NTM Hair mask for DCs (once per week).
Treatments: Motions CPR once a month, henna at least twice.
Vitamins: one gallon of water a day along with biotin, MSM, flax seed oil, and centrum multi-vitamin
Moisturizers: Water mixed with glycerin, ORS Olive Oil hair lotion, sealed with oilve, jojoba, or castor oil.
Styles: Twist/out, braid/out ONLY until June. No heat (DC hair dryer excluded) before June's length check.

I will post starting pics after I come from the hair dresser next week.

HERE IS MY REGIMEN

*Wash with Shampoo once a week (Nature's gate-Asian pear & Red tea)
*Conditioner wash 1-2 times a week(Suave tropical coconut/Mizani Thermasmooth)
*Always use a leave-in after each wash(Qhemet or Oyin leave-ins)
*Deep Condition at least twice a week(Banana Brulee, Pentene conditioning mask,Mizani Thermasmooth, ORS hair mayo)
*Do a hot oil treatment whenever I feel like (oil blend by Naturel, castor and olive oils)
*Use a moisturizer twice a day and seal with oil(Qhemet Burdock root, Qhemet Olive and Amla heavy cream, Qhemet olive and honey hydrating balm and coconut oil for sealing)
*Every now and then I straighten my hair to check the length, I use a bit of leave-in, moisturizer and Sabino Moisture block and I straighten with a hot air brush (My hair is predetangled, which makes the brushing easier and safer on my hair).

This is basically all I do for now. I am trying to keep it simple. It looks like a lot, but it really isn't and I alternate the use of products depending on what I am in the mood for.

Count me in, I will be braiding for the entire challenge with re-braid every two months. I will be relaxing this week and braiding the 2nd week of January.

Wash once a week
Deep Condition at least every other week
Do a hot oil treatment whenever I take down my braids
Use a moisturizer once a day (leave in conditioning and essential oils)

I'm in. I've been in a bout 2 of these SL challenges in the past and something always happens. I got really close last summer (I loved my hair it was the fullest and longest it had been in a while) , was going to this great stylist. then my work schedule wouldn't let me go to the salon anymore and it just went downhil from there:sad: hasn't been the same since. even when i started back going to her wasn't able to achieve the texture/health i had before.

I have layers. I want all of my hair in the back to be shoulder length and all the same length. and i want it THICK and full. its been breaking a lot lately and is looking very anorexic:sad:

I will post pics after my next relaxer which is w/in the next week. I'ma try to start off the year fresh as possible. Get it trimmed, relaxed, clear rinse, and a deep moisturizing steam treatment.

I don't use heat except on wash day
I am relaxed w/ Affirm Fiberguard Sensitive Scalp every 8-10 wks
I usu do clear rinses when i get my relaxers
I take a multivit and biotin
Moisturizer- Keracare Jojoba oil, mizani rose h20. oil- kemi oyl

I use mtg on a small patch of my hair/scalp that always has breakage issues

Lets get it!!!

Count me in please.

Weekly wash DC (maybe twice a week), Moist/Seal; DG Hair Vitamins, BT Growth Aid; Patience, better eating, excercise, water, Smiles!!!!

Also, I may do aweave in January; will update if I do so.

Is anyone else getting extremely impatient for SL? :look: I'm getting kinky twists this week and when I take them down I want to be SL.

^^^ Impatient....yes....I am so ready to see SL
Hopefully when I come off this six month stretch, I will be there
which is mid Feb....but if not....then sometimes in the new year.

A little update here; my stylist is going to help me transition. :woot:

I'm still in the challenge and because of the transition, I'm more optimistic about the growth I'll gain now. I'm not BC'ing but will trim the relaxed ends as they need trimming.

count me in! I'm doing my JFM texture softner some time this week at 11.5 weeks post. I currently bun daily, wearing sew ins or wigs sometimes. I cowash 2-3 times a week and DC with heat 2x's a week. I'll post pics after I texturize. I currenty grazing shoulder length in back and on my right side. My left side is 2 inches shorter due to damage.

While this challenge is till June I'm stretching mine out to August 09 cause I'm a slow grower it seems...

1. Every 15th of the month will be post dates for updates/progress

My camera is acting up right now so when that gets fixed I'll post starting pics and whatnot

2. Give your current hair length and whether you are relaxed/natural

I'm currently just hitting neck length when my hair is semi stretched (completely shrunken it's a twa), while my bangs are chin length completely stretched out. Oh and I'm a natural

3. Give the hairstyles you will be using and what products you use to make it
I'll be in interlock weaves for the winter/spring, two strand twists and buns for the summer/fall. I might try my hand at rollersetting if my hair gets long enough.

Right now my products I'm using all up then I'll be on another hunt for actual staples.

4. Have fun and learn as you go

Always and forever <3

im in my current length is in my avatar

2. Give your current hair length and whether you are relaxed/natural- relaxed and transitioning
3. Give the hairstyles you will be using and what products you use to make it? i will be using mostly braids and maybe a sew in im also in bootcamp

I'm ready to join!!!! I've been a reader of this forum off and on for about a year, and in ht emeantime I've been keeping a short inverted bob (part of hte Rihanna cut trend :spinning:) Anyway, I'm ready to grow my hair out, and really sick of burning the heck out of my hair with blow dryers and flat irons all the time.

Because I have an inverted bob, my hair is almost shoulder length in the front, and nape length in the back. I have highlights in my hair which has dried out the top of my hair quite a bit so I'm trying to focus on protein & moisture balance for my hair now to help get this back into somewhat OK condition.

Right now, my regimine is to do braidouts, but I'm hoping I will learn ways to wear my hair straight without two hours of direct heat!

I'd like to join! My TWA is slowly making it's way to SL, and I should be there by the summer of 2009

1. I BC'd to about 2 inches in March 2008. I am at different lengths all over...SL in the back bottom, EL on the sides, in the front I'm at my lip.
2. Since it's winter, I've been keeping my hair in protective styles most of the week. I'm in twists until Friday, which is when I usually do a twist out for a few days. Wash and go maybe one day of the week. Baggy every other night.
- Clarify when needed
- DC whenever I take my twists out
- Scarf at night
- Co-wash twists when I think they're getting fuzzy (every 2-3 days)

That's it for now! Here's my starting pics from end of November:

WELCOME..WELCOME...WELCOME....!!!! : )

I would like to join this challenge! I am also in the APL by 2009 challenge. Let's see if we can make both of these goals in '09.

I am texlaxed, and in between NL and SL. I will be getting kinky twists in the next couple of weeks. When I don't have the twists in, I have a complicated regimen:
OCT 1x/week (entire system)
MT at night 5x/week
DC 1x/week (giovanni 50:50 or NTM mask)
co-wash 1x/week (WEN)
moisturize with hollywood beauty olive oil creme
seal with sweet almond oil

I hope it's not too late! I really need to do this. I have been transitioning since October 2007. I cut my hair last month to even up all the breakage from NOT trimming my hair. Anyways, I am 98% natural now and would love to achieve SL hair by June.

Current hair length : about an inch past my ear.
Hair Type: natural
Hairstyles: I will be straightening my hair with the CHI once a week after every wash. I maintain moisture in my hair with Keracare oil twice a week and use a moisurizer around my edges every day to keep them tamed.

Products now: Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner. Ultra-hydrating Biolage shampoo. Miss Jessie's Rapid Recovery (I LOVE THIS), Paul Mitchell's super skinny serum, CHI iron guard spray, Kinky-Curly Knot Today.

I thought I joined this challenge but I don't see my name.

Please count me in...this will help me with my APL Dec 2009 goal.

*I am a 4b natural, bottom of neck length
*I will not be wearing protective styles at the moment
*I will be using my own oils to apply hair everynight
*Taking hair supplements and extra biotin
*Drinking horsetail and burdock tea
*I do alot of cowashing and avoiding shampoo
*I will use a rosemary and sage rinse twice a week following a DC
*Also I want to try something new like flaxseed oil
*Also a protein conditioner but I don't know which one.

First Update: I decided to spend the rest of the year in Kinky Twists. I'll install for 12 weeks and redo my edges every 4 weeks. After 12 weeks, I'll give it a rest for 2-3 weeks and go back into kinky twists. I'm going to flat iron and trim once for my engagement photos and then go right back into twists. :yay:

I'm on track to be SL by April/ May.

hairstyles: i plan to stay in braids for at least two months starting next week.
