October 2017: Hits & Misses

@Bibliophile
There has been some mention that the domain is gone, that it closed etc...I also read they were suppose to reopen 10/15. It's selling out on Hattache, Pampered & Twisted and Naturally Curly

I just placed an order on Naturally Curly for DB and notice new Labels, so now I'm unsure? Maybe she is re-branding or something?

I'll have to stock up now.

:(It seems the independent vendors with unique products are closing.
First it was Amazon Rain now Darcy's Botanicals.

I don't want to burst your bubble of hope, but those new labels have been there for a long time (at least a year). I sorry. Thankfully, my addiction has allowed me to have 4.5 jars of the Mask, 5 16oz jars of the Pumpkin DC and 2 8oz jars of the Pumpkin DC, in addition to one each of the Cocoa Bean Cream and Whip. That Eucalyptus thing is great, too. It totally clears up my son's scalp eczema in no time flat. I'm going to miss ol' DB.

I was going to mention this. They did rebrand almost a year ago.

HIT
Shea Moisture Low-Po leave in
- this stuff is very moisturizing

Camille Rose Curl Make
r- My hair barely curls; but this gel left my hair soft and gave me a slight hope that I could achieve a little curl pattern in some areas of my head. It did leave a white cast on my hair but it left my hair very soft as well.

Revisited HIT
Mane Choice 3 N 1- I love the smell of this stuff. It has great slip for a quick morning cowash. I'm not sure if I would repurchase it again though.

Hit for DS2

KJ Stretch and curl custard and Sarenzo's hair pudding on soaking wet hair. Definition from root to tip and it lasts through his wild sleeping and wild playing (he's almost 3). His hair is shoulder length (his dad wants to cut it) and he wears WNGs daily. The hair pudding can make his hair a little hard so I add a little oil on top. I've been using this combo for a few weeks and it's a winner.

Hit and a bit of a vain miss lol:

Curls blissful lengths liquid vitamins. I've been taking this for about 3 weeks and haven't had any adverse side effects (no breakouts, nausea, etc.), however my grays are PUSHING THROUGH in all their glory. My goodness. I'm gonna label this a hit because growth>grays.

HIT
Mane Choice Ancient Egyptian Twisting gel---I did a perm rod set on my tapered cut. That stuff is amazing. Currently I use a pudding and a foam for hold when I do my perm rods; now this twisting gel will take place of the 2 products. It gives me moisture, hold and definition all in one. And ordinarily my hair is very resistant to holding definition so I am so impressed with this product. And let's not even get into the delicious scent. :mmmchocolate:

New Hit:

Curly Proverbz DIY Ayurveda Tea Rinse - leaves my hair pretty strengthened and looks thicker too.
Curly Proverbz DIY Hair Growth Oil - This is a really nice oil that I use to overnight prepoo with. I don't leave it in while out of the house because it smells like curry

Continued Hit:

Henna treatments for coloring, conditioning and strengthening.

That Vanart Cream Rinse... that Cream Rinse... I love it. New Hit! I used it as the conditioner base for my DC mix and solo as a leave in. Bay-bay, it is everything! I can't give it all the credit for the best DC of my life, the amla/brahmi powder mix definitely played a part (that powder mix is also a hit, btw). But as a leavein it did my hair all kinds of right. I thought my finicky, cottony curls would not clump without my beloved styling gel or Marshmallow Moisture Balm (which is essentially a gelly), but the Vanart Cream Rinse detangled like a dream and clumped my curls easily. That never happens for me with just conditioner products. I thought it would be a winner for me because of the hydroxyethylcellulose, cetrimonium chloride, and the light creme gel consistency; but I underestimated its performance. See below.

Before and After applying as a leave in, on my hardest to clump, nape area:

and this is before I even applied my gel! That may not look like much to some of you with less cottony, coarse hair, but for me its a win! If my MMB is a 5 star product, I'd rate this conditioner as a 4.5. Its not all natural, but it is effective and only $2.16 at my local WalMart. Super Hit!

And last but not least, Amla/Brahmi Powders: These are also a super hit for me. I mixed equal parts amla and brahmi in a large container, then added a tablespoon of the mix to the Vanart conditioner and ayurvedic oil, to DC. When I rinsed out the DC my hair was smoother, silkier, and shinier. The new conditioner may have played a role in the outcome, but I believe the powders made the biggest difference in my DC.

TL/DR: Amla & Brahmi powders and Vanart Cream Rinse Conditioner are HITS.

DB May Be Closed:cry3:

DOUBLE MISS:

Say it ain't so! I saw posts about it but I didn't keep up. Darcy's Botanicals is a nice, reliable brand.

The herbal spritz leave-in is my favorite refresher spray. I haven't bought it in ages since I get other ones in-store easily. :cry3:

I wonder if any local stores still carry the line. Lemme see what stock they have left.

(Initial/New) Hit:
CurlyProverbz DIY Hair Tea

It's utterly ridiculously easy to make, and it strengthened my hair on contact. Like, right before my eyes.
And because I augmented her recipe with aloe Vera powder, mine was moisturizing.

I love this stuff. The ONLY drawback is that it's ever-so-slightly messy. It's brown and you have to clean it up if it gets on your sink/counter or drips onto your ears/neck/shoulders.

It’s in a cart. On ama.zon. I will look in the BSS, but I prefer to give my money to ama.zon and tell them to leave a notice or leave it in a locker :look:

Sis, it's $2 at Walmart. What are you paying on Amazon?

ETA: the one I have has hydroxyethylcellulose, cetrimonium chloride, and no silicones. I've seen a few online with different ingredients, so check when buying.
