Now that your hair is long...

Ladies,

For those of you who have grown your hair to APL or BSL from shorter lengths, do you find that you wear it out less? I am finding that I only wear it out on special occasions. I pull it back in a bun almost every single day, but I am very self conscious when I wear it out because people tend to comment on it so I don't wear it out. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that I now have length, but I don't really wear it out to show the length that I worked so hard to get.

Is it just me, or do some of you feel this way too?

if you wore it out more you'd probably get less comments bc people would be used to your hair being down. im assuming for special occasions you probably have makeup and a dress on so your whole look is different.

and i don't think i'm like that. i like attention lol..only child syndrome lol

This was me until recently. Then I suffered a setback in June and almost cut it into a bob. And I realized.

I had worked two years for my hair, was now about to cut it, and had not enjoyed it nearly as much as I could have. I corrected that with the swiftest of haste lol. I wear it out a lot more now. I try to maintain a balance between being protective and not feeling guilty when I just want to enjoy the rewards of my labor.

I agree with you 100%.

I'm the opposite. For the first year of my journey I always had my hair covered up with a wig/weave/UPA clip. Now that I have a little length, I make it a point to wear it out so that I can enjoy it.

Nope.

To me its like whats the point of growing your hair out to long lengths if you're never gonna enjoy the fruits of your labor and wear it down:look:? My hair is down 95% of the time, let blow in the wind flip it and run my hands thru it etc. I worked hard to get to this length so I'm gonna enjoy it.

I agree with aegis, you probably get so many comments because its so rare that people see your hair down, if you did it regularly it wouldn't be as much of a fuss. My friends and fam are used to seeing my hair down I still get compliments on the length and style but its not overwhelming, they're used to seeing me like this. I would say the people that make the hugest deal over my hair are strangers or new friends.

My hair is up/ shrunken most of the time so it shocks even me when its flat ironed. Few people make a fuss over it though. Its just more practical to have it up so I fuss over it less.
In any case, I'm bootcamping myself for a time to get to longer lengths and then enjoy that little more. Still its good to enjoy and let it out whatever length you are sometimes...

I tend to wear mine in buns a lot--mostly because I actually really like how they look now that my hair is at a length that makes them a really good size. As my hair gets longer, when it's down it seems to just get in the way. I'm sure if I continued to wear it down more, I'd get use to it. So that's really why I wear it up a lot--not really because of attention factor.

I do tend to wear it up alot still. Planning on bunning this wekk instead of half-wigging it!
But I didn't like it down before anyway because it got in the way of doing sports! :)

I get paranoid when I wear my hair out and keep worrying if it's tangling or catching on things and i'm only APL. I guess when I get to more length I'll train myself to enjoy it out and stop being a worry wort but until then I try not to wear it out much.

i wear a bun almost 7 days a week... it helps to protect my ends so that when i do go to swang my hair... i have something to swang lol

I wear my hair mostly in buns now. But that's just because it's so quick to do that style. But I do try to wear it out more (even though the thought of my hair rubbing up against my clothes, and possibly causing breakage, makes me paranoid).

But I understand how you feel. Except for me it happens whenever I wear my hair straight.

I wear my hair in a pony tail most of the time now. I switch up sometimes and wear it in a banana clip. I rarely wear my hair down. Nobody is surprised with my length (below bsl) anymore. That sucks!

I usually wear my hair up in a PS 90% of the time. Even back when I was relaxed my hair was in buns most of the time. I personally don't like to wear my hair out now b/c it's a nuisance and gets stuck in everything. Plus, I'm concerned that it will get dried out and damaged.

i actually desired to grow my hair longer so that i could do cute protective styles - i am not a fan of wearing my hair out frequently - its just too much to deal with come sleepy time...
