Bug Notifications for new mentions but don't see anything new

Ok. So every time I log in, I see notifications for new mentions. When I click on it, it takes me to the mentions page where I see stuff that was already mentioned (nothing new). Why does it keep telling me that I have new mentions when there is nothing new there? erplexed
