SN: I think the front is either heat damged or is just a funky texture bc that thing will NOT curl up for nothin!!:swearing:

Congrats!
It may not be heat damaged. The front of my hair about 1.5 - 2 cubic inches on either side of my middle part is the same way. It only produces waves when I add gel but if I let it dry without product, it's almost straight. I thought it was heat damage, too, but it just grows out of my scalp that way.

Hmmm....so how do you style it? I mean the whole front of my hair is like this.....however....it may be the gel....but it seems like some pieces of it is sllllllooooooowwwwlllly curling up?

I'm so confrused....i need to re-up on some products but i'm afraid i might up and buy EVERYTHING i see! I just used up the last bit of my EcoStyler gel....i dunno.:spinning:

Congrats. I remember when you reached WL. I can't believe you BCd! It will grow back though - healthier and longer!

Thanks for telling me to go to your blog! My old eyes couldn't see a thing!

Yours sounds exactly like mine. The very ends of some of them (like 1/4-1/2") curl up but the rest are just these lazy waves and what's funny is that I have trimmed my hair a few times since the BC but those ends still curl up while the rest doesn't... lol. Unfortunately, I can't wear a WNG with it down like how some people can wear the middle part or have WNG bangs. I usually opt to wear a headband or I push it back out of my face and style it that way (but I don't really wear WNGs anyway... like hardly ever). And when I do any twistouts or braidouts, I use a heavier hold product on that part so that it will be as defined as the rest since it's so loose.

Congrats girl, it looks beautiful!

You know, a lot of people's hair will have a period of adjustment after the BC where the texture will look a little off or feel dry. Maybe once you baby it for a bit it will do something different. Otherwise, if it is heat damage, maybe you can use some perm rods or something on your twists/twist outs.

My sister said i should give it a week...but if nothing changes by then...i'll definitely be going with the perm rods.:yep:

Congrats!

I want to second whoever said the loose texture may not be heat damage....I BC'ed at nine months post, but walked out of the barber shop with about 5 months worth of growth in the front, because it was basically completely straight and I told him to keep cutting it until it was curly (which was pretty low). Well, cut to almost a year later and yeah, I do think SOME of it was heat damage, but that part of my hair just stretches/straightens much more easy than the rest of my hair. The front, crown, and back of my hair are different textures.

@GreenEyedJen....girl tell me about it i was bout to keep snippin til it started to curl! When my sister got to that part she was like "whats up with your front?"...lol....so i told her not to chop too much off bc even though it was my bangs...i could see where it waved up....so i told her to stop there....get in the bathroom...i'm like yeah those are not relaxed ends...but very straight natural hair!:wallbash:

BTW: Anybody looking forward to National Afro Day this year? I hope they do it again i thought that was SO cool last year!

Congrats chica! Lookin' good  Don't worry about the multiple texture thing, it's something most naturals deal with and you'll grow to love it if not already :wink2: I have the same thing in my crown (wavy) and cut too short when b/c'ing, at least you recognized it for what it was.

ETA: Oh and yeah, mine is definitely NOT heat damage, so I second that notion as well. I've gone several months at a time in not using direct heat and the texture never changes, it just grows that way. Trust your own instincts.

Congratulations! You DO have a lot of hair for just 10 months post! Welcomed to the (natural) club! Oh yeah, the front of my hair is a slightly diff texture than the back. The back curls up, but the front lays more in crimped waves, if you know what I mean. Most naturals do have several textures, as others have mentioned!

I BC'd my own hair in the bathroom mirror, and I ALMOST cut too much in the front because the natural hair was so difficult to distinguish from the texlaxed hair. I left about an inch of straight just to be safe on the first cut, then went back over my whole head and cut a little closer. By that time, the curls/waves were more distinguishable, and I could def. tell where the demarcation lines were. So, don't feel bad hun! I had trouble myself, so I know it can be hard, even if you have help to BC! :yep:
