afrofaithful *shudder* You couldn't have dropped me a PM or somep'n? :hide:

Are you both referring to a post of mine where I shared how I washed my hair in braids?

ella, if you're asking if I grew my hair in braids, yes. It's my to go to method whenever I have a setback and want to get my hair to a length I can do more with.

In Feb 2007, I had a SL hair which was the longest my hair ever got to in all my life. I had achieved this using braids after a setback from using heat on a daily basis in 2004. :look:

Anyway, because I'd grown my hair in braids, I felt like a fish out of water and made the mistake of going to a stylist to learn new tricks of dealing with this unfamiliar length: Like how to shingle. I could probably do it myself from seeing it online but I just wanted to see it done by a pro and hands-on training. Long story short: I didn't get my shingling  but worse than that, I got a "trim" of 5+ inches. :wallbash: I wound up with a TWA that was 3 inches stretched:

After I got over the shock, I started to enjoy my hair and familiarize myself with it so I'd never need anyone's help. But I'm lazy and after two months, I got tired of the time it took to put my hair away for the night (I'm anal about braiding it nightly, you see) and then there was the hassle of undoing it every morning, allllll those plaits!!! (If my hair were longer, I could do fewer plaits and take less time.) So I decided to wear extension braids in April 2007. When I took my braids out in July 2008, I was back to where I'd been:

And while that may not be as impressive as some folks have to show, I was thrilled to bits because I didn't do all the right things like moisturizing my hair. In fact I didn't put any leave-in in my hair all that time. I got my moisture from washing.

So yes, I'm a believer in braids being one of the best low mani ways to grow your hair long. Once you find a regimen that works, that is. When in doubt, I always say to use Robin's regimen and then tweak it as you see fit, after you've had some experience with them...and especially if you do your own braids.

Nonie actually I meant your tutorial for twists oops lol.
I now have my twists in for 3 weeks and they still look great!

Thanks, virtuenow.

I wasn't sure what they were talmbout. I first did think they meant extension braids which I talked about earlier today. But I later started to think they, or I should say "she" since Ella was talmbout something else, might've been talmbout washing own hair in plaits. Not sure which links you gave but appreciate you doing it so I don't hafta. :giggle:

Hope the links helped afrofaithful. LOL ella

I was reading that you baggy...do you put something in the bag, or just water and oil? I just got micros and right on my mini widows peak it hurts to the touch. I'm in the air force and was told my hair is out of regs (my flight chief is being a HATER). So I'm going to buy a wig because I did not spend 200 to take these out in a week... O_o do you think I could get a wig with micros and baggy underneath? It seems like so much...

I use NOTHING when I baggy. Not water. Not oil. Not a leave-in. Nada.

I think it depends on the braids (how thick they are; how many packs) and your hair (how long it is and how thick it is). SparklingFlame used to fit her long hair under a mommy wig so maybe it is possible. Perhaps if you wrapped them like relaxed folks do their hair then used Saran wrap as your baggy, you could probably make it work. I haven't bought wigs so not sure if you buy them by sizes. If that's the case, then either do the wrap the measure to know what size to get or approx a larger size. The problem may be getting your hat/cap to fit.
