If you do not attend any church (yet) but are interested in paying tidths because you are becoming more aware of the importance, where would you pay tidths to?

As a church member and tither, I hope it's ok for me to answer....

Are you getting spiritually fed AT ALL? Do you watch a church, on television? Listen on radio? I believe tithes should go DIRECTLY to that source from where you receive that spiritual nourishment.

Secondly, just wanted to clarify that tithes are not PAID, they are GIVEN. Pay implies that the gospel is a commodity that can be bought or sold, and despite what some charlatans have portrayed, that simply is not the case.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I am in process of being spiritually fed. I read the Bible and pray more often than I ever have before in my life. And it began again for me through television ministry and believe it or not, from some of the teachings of the law of attraction--In other words, I know that God is the source of all the laws of the Universe, so I'd rather be where He is. I also grew up and live in a Christian household where I have been the only one who does not go to church. But NOW, things are changing. I am recognizing more things, understanding more things and simply waking up. I am also thinking about going back to church as well, I just dont know where to go yet. I grew up a Seventh Day Adventist and strayed away at some point, yet I'm still not sure where go from here. Also, my mother has been stressing to me the importance of giving tidths for years, I'm am only now, opening my heart to it all.

Oh and I may have worded it wrong. I didnt mean to imply that the Gospel is a commodity. I was just asking a question. I'll be careful to word it better next time.

Thanks for your response, it does help.

When I'm "trying out" a church, I bring a little money to contribute to the Church.

Makes me feel good. Did that help?

Thanks SQ, it does help. But I was under the impression that offerings (which is what I think you are talking about) and tidths were two different things. I grew up learning that you should give a tenth what ever money you receive all the time. Do others know tidths to be this way as well, or is it just me?

Weeeellll...many Christians differ on whether or not we should tithe. We've discussed it many times before. Lauren450 put it best IMO, you could try PMing her for her POV, she really helped me understand.

But I don't believe we are REQUIRED to give the Church anything. Because then it is an obligation, and not really giving, ya know? You can give .5% or 5000%, which ever you can afford and feel comfortable giving. But I don't believe in giving the 10% just because. I'll see if I can find the links for you.

Yeah, I remember growing up that there have been debates on this subject. Thanks for the links.

I would say there is a major distinction between tithes and offerings. IMHO, the tithe is a specific commitment of one's income to a particular church, ministry, or other appropriate entity operating within a spiritual/religious designation.

Anybody can give an offering/donation (of any amount, whereas the tithe is that (first) 10 percent), and it occurs without a specific commitment.

I compare it as that anybody can PRAISE the Lord, but only the "true" believers of the Lord Jesus Christ can WORSHIP the Lord.

Ok those are some very interesting threads. I am sorry I didnt see them before. I will be reading them all in depth this evening.

I hope that whatever your decision is that you find a loving congregation and a soft place to land. Although no church is perfect, I was out of church for many years, and I now appreciate the body of believers. I have been in church regularly since 2002. Before that I was one of those people who prayed, read the bible but had trouble with the organized religon. I used to say I would never be one of "those" people -- now I am one of those people!

I'm curious to know your journey... what pushed you out and what drew you back in.... If you are comfortable in sharing....
