Does anyone here not include protein in their regimen or tried including it but found that it didn't make much of a difference to their hair?

I tried not using protein (when I wasn't using heat and rinsing frequently) but it didn't work so well. But I have heard of people that say they don't use protein (the glamtwinz and I think the other twins twolala don't use protein) and their hair seems pretty healthy.

I've done henna a couple of times if you want to count it (literally 2 or 3 times in 4 years). I've only started using Komaza protein in October? I feel a difference as I'm washing it out but other than that not sure if I notice a difference.

I'm trying to figure out if I should try Aphogee or Neutral Protein Filler. Or skip the step all together. So far, I can't report any setbacks without it (knock on wood).

I should add that my daily moisturizer has silk peptides in it. Not sure how the two products I mentioned would compare.

This is kinda off topic but I didn't use protein for about a year on my virgin natural hair. I had breakage from my hair being too moisturized and had to do a mini chop. Since then I have added protein back into my reggie, and I am seeing more length retention

My hair is too fine to go without protein. I learned the hard way last year with moisture overload. My hair was mushy, tangled and breaking every wash day. Once I clarified and did a protein treatment my hair slowly started improving. Now I rarely see breakage on wash day.

I don't use protein, have never done a protein treatment. The hair is approaching WL and so far I've yet to experience a set-back.

I personally don't see the use for them.

Everyone's hair needs some level of protein in my opinion. Not everyone can use the protein heavy regimen I and other fine haired people use. For me going protein free means week, dry hair that snaps off and has no elasticity. When people ask irl, especially when their complaint is chronically dry hair that never accepts moisture, I recommend at least a mild protein like aphogee 2 minute.

I've used protein and noticed breakage and hair on my bathroom floors. My hair was dry and brittle and I decided to do a moisturizing treatment the next wash day, but no difference. I changed products, and now use Keracare moisturizing conditioner, and noticed less hair breakage and softer hair. My hair is protein sensitive.

I think the type of protein/protein products, frequency of usage and hair sensitivity dictates if you need protein in your hair routine or not. I tried a coconut oil rinse after my last wash and realized that even a little bit of protein, even followed up with a deep conditioner, is a little too much on my hair.

I agree with @irisak I think everyone needs some protein but it can come from lots of different sources. My hair hates hydrolyzed proteins but it loves henna, eggs, mayo, coconut milk.
For me it is henna once a month and about every two weeks I have this conditioner I made up with (liquid amino's, mayo, avocado, coconut cream) works great as long as it is balanced by washing twice a week.

I agree. Not everyone's strands love protein as much as mine so not everyone has to literally cook protein in. Protein helps hair accept moisture. That's why moisturizing conditioners typically have hydrolyzed wheat or silk proteins in them. I also only wash once a week and my hair is thriving.

I am texlaxed so this may not apply to you but I use protein weekly. I use a light protein on my ends only every week. Every 4 weeks I use a medium protein (Komaza Protein Strengthener) all over my hair but more heavily on the line of demarcation . I was always very cautious with protein because I was always afraid of protein overload. Then I read something on layering protein weekly so I tried it and it proved to be beneficial to me. I think my hair was actually suffering from moisture overload. Now I think my hair is well balanced since I have a regular protein regimen. My hair stays moisturized longer and feels good.
