I agree. Not everyone's strands love protein as much as mine so not everyone has to literally cook protein in. Protein helps hair accept moisture. That's why moisturizing conditioners typically have hydrolyzed wheat or silk proteins in them. I also only wash once a week and my hair is thriving.I agree with @irisak I think everyone needs some protein but it can come from lots of different sources. My hair hates hydrolyzed proteins but it loves henna, eggs, mayo, coconut milk.
For me it is henna once a month and about every two weeks I have this conditioner I made up with (liquid amino's, mayo, avocado, coconut cream) works great as long as it is balanced by washing twice a week.
