Who here does not incorporate protein in their regimen? I was thinking today of how my hair takes weeks to get back to its normal moisture balance when I use protein. I also recall a lot of women having the same problem. There is a member of the forum with WL hair stating that she uses no protein in her hair (I remember reading this in one of her posts). Has anyone thought of or follow this?

sorry to interrupt your thread, i have the same question and do you ladies recommend us with thin hair to use protein? I'm trying to figure out if i need it or not myself.:perplexed

I use a protein reconstructor during my relaxer touchups only, every 10 weeks. My hair requires much more moisture than protein to remain balanced.

I try very hard to avoid protein. Whenever I used protein in my hair it always ends up feeling very hard and brittle.

My hair is fine with ors mayo every month. I'm not even touching any of the big guns (aphogee, keraphix?) bc I know my hair will throw a hissy fit if I use anything stronger. IMO protein is good if your hair is damaged but if your hair isn't damaged you don't really need that much for upkeep

cosigning with the above post: i use protein bi-weekly (emergencee' which is a hardcore protein treatment from nexxus) because my hair is severely thin and damaged from highlights (blonde).

That said, I condition wash everyday, so I don't really notice too many moisture issues. BUT i am sure to deep condition with a super duper heavy conditioner after the protein use.

the important thing to remember is that if you have very dry hair that doesn't hold moisture well no matter how often you moisturize, you may need some protein so your hair shaft can hold onto the moisture. That seems to help a lot of ladies out...

I also think there was a thread somewhere about maintaining the proper protein/moisture balance. i'll look for it and post it for you.

hope this helped some

I try to avoid protein, but I don't mind some plant proteins like wheat and soy in my rinse out conditioners, not my deep, though.

But I notice that if I go 4 or 5 weeks without protein, my hair will start needing it. And even then, a light protein will do. No hardening or anything drying.

Aphogee and Emergencee are just too much for me. Even with deep conditioning and everything, it takes my hair 2-3 weeks to get back to normal.

I would just rather not do it and I really don't need it.

I have even stopped using Henna.

I rarely use protein, I have Motions CPR just in case but my hair is coarse and require a lot of moisture :yep:. Some products I use have protein in them but I had to stop using it b/c my hair was acting up.

I don't use it. But I'm natural. When I was relaxed, DCing with an ORS pak once a week was enough. I tried Aphogee once and hated it.
