Hey,

So what to you do when you just not have the energy to do hair. I have been wanting to put my hair in mini twist for about two months and it just does not seem to be happening. I have really been bad about taking care of my hair for the last two years. I work about 50-65 hours per week. I just dont know how to fit it in. I have a hard time paying someone $60- $160 to do my hair.

Is there anyone out there like me and if so what are you doing to get it under control?

While I have the energy I don't always have the time for the long process. That is when I reach for the wig. I feel like wiga give you style freedom while you can take care of your hair weekly or less frequently (depending) rather than daily.

@ Blairx0, I had thought about a wig but I have big hair, not really sure of the best way to get it kinda flat.

Can you corn row or flat twist. There are several YouTube videos or ladies here that could help. My cornrows look like a mess, but my hair is soft and protected from the elements and my own laziness.

Try just moisturizing and bunning. The only thing you'll have to worry about is moving your bun to different spots on your head. That might help get you through what sounds like a pretty stressful time without worrying about hair. Good Luck!

I currently don't have time to do much with my hair either. Right now I have the dual function of working and being a caretaker for my mom. So there isn't much time.

I just try to keep it simple. My hair is only SL so I will put twists in the front section (its too short to bun) and bun the rest. Or I put twists in the front and I put 7 to 9 flat twists down the back. Either of those styles take 30 to 45 minutes or less to do.

If you do the twists in the front and the bun in the back, you can choose to twist small sections at a time until the entire head is twisted. If you can wash your hair in twists that may work for you, so you aren't having to do your hair all at once.

Those are my only 2 go to styles at the moment.

I wash, DC, bun and keep it moving when I don't have time. On occasions like this, when I'm mad busy, I make the time to put my hair in twists so I don't have to think about it for 2-3 weeks. I know it's hard for you to pay someone to do your hair (I DEFINITELY have the same issue), but it might be worth it if the lessens the amount of time you have to spend going forward.

I usually pay for it to get done when I get tired. It's usually worth the money to give myself a break from doing my hair. Sit back, enjoy someone else doing the hard work, and relax a little bit.

The public never sees my ghastly braids are under a wig. I co wash weekly or every 10 days moisturize and re wig. Doesn't get any easier or cheaper for me

Yes! Reach for the wig. Get you some cute half-wigs that don't require much blending OR a cute full-cap/lace-front.

I cannot flat twist or cornrow, so I twist or braid and then pin them down. Pretty simple.

1. try wet bunning since the weather is getting warmer
2. look for someone on craigslist who can cornrow your natural hair for you
3. when the cornrows get older, throw a wig on it.
4. get it braided.

If you are working that much each week, think of paying someone else to do your hair as keeping your sanity. Try getting someone else to do it one month, and then you do it the next month. That is what I am trying for the rest of the year for myself and my girls.

because you are so tired it would be well worth the money, it probably wouldn't take but 2-3 hours for your hair to be styled. i consider when a service is of the upmost quality worth the $$$ and it equates to precious time saved!

twistouts could be an option for you but they have to be re-done weekly.

Like, you, I'm busy. I'm a single mom and am a business owner too. When things were even busier, I'd just get my hair braided and spend like 1 day a month, touching up around the edges and back. If you want to keep your hair down, find ways to integrate daily care with your routine without it seeming like a chore:

-invest in a satin pillow case ( ~$6.99 at Anna's Linens). Last week, I eliminated the steps of rooting around for my nightcap and stuffing my twists underneath which usually slips off the first hour anyway.
-showering before bed on cowash nights. Then seal and style how you like and it's lights out (makes for a better sleep too), OR
-cowash in the morning shower and prepare to wear a wash and go
-alternate evenings of care so it doesn't seem so much. Eg, one night cowash & seal. The next, oil the scalp, etc. The next moisturize and seal. Except for twist nights (which take 30min), I've gotten night care down to about 10min.

Wash days, otoh, are a different thing entirely! Can't get around that mess...:look:

Take a deep breath... sometimes, it's worth it to pay for the peace of mind. If you need to pay to get it done, don't sweat it!

Thank you all for your comments, they are so helpful!!!! I will be looking for someone to do my hair at least every other month.

But please still post, if you have other ways in which you do your hair when you have a lot going on.

I am sure that others will also fine this topic useful.

tea rinse.. the care will depends on which herbs you used .. since february i've been doing tea rinses with indian herbs because I was too lazy to do the application strands by strands and following by the rinsing process. so since I do tea rinses with the same herbs or I put the tea in a spray bottle and moistuze my hair with it. 3x times a week I moisturize than sleep with a plastic bag.

so the only effort I do is pschit pschit then putting a plastic on my head.

I'm mad you made the noise :lachen:

What do you put in your tea rinse (preservatives) so that it lasts all week? I always make a lot!

I bun or go to the salon. I have a consultation scheduled with a natural hair salon in my city and I really hope it goes well because I'd like to become a regular!

h:lol: i had to do it ! i use this preservative, http://www.makingcosmetics.com/Preservatives/Benzylalcohol-DHA-p21.html this is the one allowed by ecocert
Us mixologist like this one http://www.theherbarie.com/Optiphen-pr-146.html
i use a pipette or a syringe for measuring, (both websites i've just given sell some) happy lazy tea rinse:yawn:

When I don't have the time or energy to do my hair, I pin up my twistout. If the twist pattern is somewhat gone from my hair (as it is now), I braid over the twisted pattern. Then I pin it up in the morning.

Ugh!...I really have to work up the energy to braid my hair tonight.

What I did: relaxed (sorry if unpopular :look:). Washed and dc once a week put hair in pony and ignored until next wash day. Gave me the most retention ever.

I think the ladies have given you some great suggestions, but since you said to keep posting, well I can't wear wigs for long so this is what I do:

I go to a shop to get corn rows for $60. Very cute style! If you'd like to see let me know. They last for about a good month. It's an African shop though and they do braid tight, but not too bad. I wouldn't do it too often.

Eco style it! I set my hair with this gel and it gives me cute curls and the set lasts for up to five days.

I plan to buy an afro puff (you can try any phony pony) and do some buns pretty soon.

You're in Atlanta right? Not sure what kind of work you do, but remember Cynthia McKinny and the two braids? I used to think that was the best protective style! Plus it's quick and you don't have worry about your hair for awhile. I didn't think it was the most professional looking style though. Just a thought.

So, add these to the list and you should be able to figure something. I would definitely pay someone even if it's once per month because it would be worth it! You may find someone who you only have to pay every other month if you just do twists or individual braids.

When I don't have the time or energy, I just wear headwraps. I have a wide variety of nice scarves that can be worn in public. All my hair needs is a few flat twists around the perimeter, a wig cap, and then the scarf tied in a nice way.
