For how many days/weeks?
I comb no more than 2x per week when I wash my hair.
How do you wear your hair? natural, relaxed, tex
My hair is relaxed.

When are you detangling?
I detangle on wash days during my final rinse.

Do you see alot of hair in the shower? sink
I see no more than 20 strands of hair from detangling.

Who is doing this? I am not...I use a hype hair wide comb and a boar bristle soft brush from sally's

For how many days/weeks? I comb almost everyday when I wear my hair down, fingercombing would not do the job. I brush only when wearing my hair back and I only brush the very front and the very back.

When are you detangling? I detangle when needed, I also detangle in the shower

Do you see alot of hair in the shower? yes, I am shopping around to find something to stop this, it is winter shedding.

I only use a comb during conditioning in the shower, after finger combing out any knots and tangles, and again once my hair is saturated with Surge 14 and leave-in. I was washing twice a week, but have to cut down to once now that I'm getting close to relaxer day. I don't notice excessive shedding doing this and I think it really thickens my hair, but as I get to about 8 weeks post I start to notice a lot more demarcation breakage and more shedding, so I have to be really careful about any manipulation between weeks 8 and 10.:ohwell:

ETA: I never brush!

When are you detangling? In the shower with conditioner, a shower comb and the shower stream. Then I use a bone comb after applying my leave-ins.

Do you see alot of hair in the shower? sink No, just a normal amount of shed hair.

On occasion I also use a baby brush and have just purchased 2 ultra soft boar bristle brushes for light grooming at the hairline and when bunning. :)

For how many days/weeks?
4 (no combing or brushing). I don't ever brush my hair but I do comb to detangle.

When are you detangling?
1x/wk under running water

Do you see alot of hair in the shower?
not really

I stopped brushing a few years ago and my shedding and breakage stopped almost overnight. As much as I love the paddle brush and the sensation on my scalp from using it, I haven't looked back since.

I tried to reduce the combing, but my hair just looked untidy like a bird's nest.

I no longer use a brush. I only use a comb when I wash my hair, which would be every 3 days. I wear my hair in wash and wear styles.

I comb my hair everyday except when im home and its wrap up and i dont have anywhere to go. I cant see how u can go without combing your hair? I can understand if its in a certain style but i wear my hair done a lot and i have to comb it.

I never comb or brush my hair except on wash days which is like every 2 weeks or week and a half.
I'm Relaxed and wear it out every single day
I detangle only in the shower under running water
I see the normal amount of shedding when one doesn't comb their hair for a couple of weeks.
No combing or brushing is best thing ever for me.

I don't comb or brush, I use my fingers...I'm retaining a lot of length this way. I haven't seen any breakage in a long time and minimal shed hairs. :D

Came back to add, did a co wash this morning, didn't comb or brush during or after. I lost MINIMAL hair hair in the shower which is a FIRST.

So far, my hair is loving this method, there's DRAMATICALLY less hair seen in the shower and on the bathroom floor.

i understand the reason for not combing eg thicker hair and retaining length. but i cannot go without comging my hair. it seems that most of the women that are doing this are APL and longer who wear buns. im not even shoulder length. i would love to do this but i cant. what i do is use a wide tooth comb. and i comb my hair twice a day. once to comb out my wrap and at night to wrap it. i havent used a brush in years but when i go to the salon they brush my hair when they wrap.

I'm with you, I can't go without combing my hair but I do need to wrap it up at night like you. Maybe when it gets long enough I will not comb it as much.

I'm surprised at how well the "no comb/no brush" thing works! :p

I just use fine comb, once in a while, make sure I've removed all shred strands and to make parts. But I have not used a BRUSH at all this year yet!

I hadn't really thought of it but I think you're right. My hair is between shoulder and apl and it's MUCH easier to do this now than when it was shorter than shoulder length.

yeah it seems sometimes that the longer hair ladies have it easier to retain even more length. because they can do protective styles and no combing.*sigh*

Oh, please don't sigh or be discouraged! I'm just learning that the things the longer haired ladies recommend actually work! It's just when our hair is shorter and we try them, they don't seem to generate the same results and it's discouraging.

If I can make it to past shoulder length and almost APL, ANYONE can do it. I've NEVER had long hair, never longer than the tops of my shoulders so I'm living proof it can be done. What I found that worked for me during the shorter grow out phase is protective styling (buns, updo's, quick-weaves, etc.)(especially as the hair got closer to sitting on my collar). Even with the protective styling, I was still 'DOING' too much to my hair. My hair has let me know lately that it likes to be left alone!

If I had it to do over again, I'd not 'do' so much and just let it grow.

My hair breaks to easily despite my protien and moisture reg.. So as of last week i decided to follow the advice of the so many ladies on here and just comb on wash day which is once a week. I have to say it takes sum getting use to but i'll do almost anything to stop see those broken hairs.

Who is doing this?
I recently started doing this the last 3 mths or so.

For how many days/weeks?
1-2 times per mth.;)

How do you wear your hair? natural, relaxed, tex?
Natural

When are you detangling?
1 -2 times a mth. when I wash/condition. I used my hands more than my bones comb and denman 4 brush.

Do you see alot of hair in the shower? sink?
No. Since I have been twisting my hair the last 3 mths or so, I rarely see hair anywhere. My hair is getting so THICK and LONG I will definitely be at APL by Oct. This is the best method for me:D :D :D :D

My hair is natural. I've been combing my hair with a widetooth comb in the shower every day under cool running water. It feels so good to my head, and I don't notice any hair coming out because if it does, it falls down the drain. I feel like this is the best way to detangle my hair. The water makes it easier for the comb to go through my hair.

I also brush my wet hair with a boar bristle brush. I've been trying not to fret over how much hair comes out, but I do try to keep combing and brushing at a minimum.

I comb once every 3 weeks on wash day, I wear my hair either in curls or straight, either way I just finger style.

I don't use a brush. It snags on my hair and pulls it out. When I need the affects of a brush I use an Aveda stiff massaging brush that has little rubber things instead of bristles.
I've tried using the no comb method but my hair just started looking funky from the finger combing and it felt weird not being able to comb my hair.

I own both these tools but I only use my round brush when I'm blowdrying my hair and want to achieve a sleek look (when I'm about to flat iron) other than that I only use a wide tooth comb.

For the ppl that don't brush or comb, no problems with knots?

I'll have to try this. I used to pick my hair out every morning to shape it into my fro and experienced a lot of breakage beause I was picking it out dry. The past 5 days I have only finger-combed my hair and did not see any shedding. However, I might just spray a leave in and pick it out that way because my hair hasn't been looking very happy.

I totally agree!! :) But one thing I have noticed is if I do a twist out or braid out, or even a flexi rod set, it keeps me from having to comb my hair until wash day at least. I wash twice a week and comb out while conditioning.

My hair is jaw/chin length. I've found that I can't wear straight styles and not comby my hair daily. That's why, until I get to my first length goal, I think I'll stick to curly ones to cut down on manipulation. Once I reach that goal, I'm hoping it will be a little easier to not have to comb my hair daily if I choose to wear it straight....hopefully

I do not comb or brush my hair at all. My hair is just fine without it.

**But this stretch, I will comb in the shower my hair the last two weeks (once a week of the two weeks) of my stretch to elimate knotting and locking.

For how many days/weeks?

I wash my hair twice a week and comb in the shower when my hair is full of conditioner. Up to about three months ago, I would brush every single day. :nono:

How do you wear your hair? natural, relaxed, tex

My hair is relaxed, but I have a bit of new growth as I am transitioning.

When are you detangling?

In the shower when my hair is saturated with conditioner.

Do you see alot of hair in the shower?

I have to get out of the habit of checking, but lately if I see any, it'll only be about 1-2 strands.
Before I started transitioning and taking care of my hair :nono:
I couldn't even count how many strands I would see dropping out of my poor head.

Things are looking up now :yep:

I don't know how y'all do it, but I HAVE to comb every day. I sometimes comb twice a day, particularly if I'm wearing my hair down or after I work out. I tried doing the no combing thing because my hair breaks way too much, but the back of my head (where my ponytail holder was) ended up looking like a bird's nest :perplexed! I'm only 5 weeks post relaxer and my NG is OUT OF CONTROL, so last night I had to detangle and plait my hair in order to avoid further tangling and breakage. Unfortunately, I can only wash once a week and have 7 more weeks before my next relaxer...
