No choice...I guess I have to cut it

Dear Tangled Mess,

I tried to be kind and gentle. I wanted you to experience life as individual strands as it was intended for you to live. I wanted you to stand strong on your own. In all my efforts to free you from the bondage that you were in, you resisted. You chose to be stubborn and remain caught up in the mess that you were in. I even tried to ignore you, but I realized you would corrupt the other strands on my head. I clearly see that you are leaving me no other choice but to relieve you of your duty and remove you from my head.

Sincerely,
Your frustrated owner

Awww...OP, how did it get that way? What is your regimen and how had you been wearing your hair? Are you relaxed/texlaxed or natural? (Sorry I couldn't tell from the pics but from your name I'd think natural?)

I had just taken down my Senegalese twists. I was sure to use a wide tooth comb to work through my hair before I washed it, but after I washed...it was a real problem. I am transitioning...24 weeks post

Hmmmm.......looks like you didn't get all the shed hair out. You definitely should have done a moistururizing pre-poo before washing, and then detangled/finger detangled while in it.

Maybe its not too late.....just to be safe, I normally pre-poo overnight when I take my cornrows down every month. It basically melts any tangles I have- I use Chicorro's recipe. Maybe you can try this before you cut?

OP, before cutting (if it's not too late), I would suggest trying one of two things - drench hair in oil and attempt to detangle or rewet and use a detangler such as Mane n Tale Detangler as @AlliCat mentions or something else like Silken Child. It may take a while to detangle, hours even, but to me, that option beats cutting.

It's not too late. Soak those parts in conditioner
In the future a wide tooth comb isn't enough to get shed hair out after staying in braids. You'll have to go medium to small tooth comb or a brush like the tangle teezer. I normally had use conditioner or oil, then finger detangle, then use a medium or small tooth comb on each piece. It saved me lots of stress and headache and breakage

I would agree that it wasn't until the tangle teezer (TT), did I realize that I was fully detangling my hair properly. My hair was get so matted and packed down to my head. Plus my technique wasn't the best back then either. Improved technique + Better grade products + Better detangling tools = tangle free wash experience.
