Hello Ladies!

I am so happy I found this site a few days ago. I am about to get kinky twists and I happened to find your site while I was researching them. I just cut my hair into a Rihanna crop and while i love it, I have to style it everyday and the heat damage is so much. I have been natural for about 2 years now and I keep cutting it shorter and shorter because I get frustrated and annoyed. I know shouldn't flat iron it and blowdry too much. Right now I blowdry once a week when I shampoo and condition. I grease my scalp and let it rest overnight. Then I flat iron to style it. I am getting the kinky twists to give my hair a break cause it breaks off easily. Are they safe to get and how long should I keep them in? I don't braid my hair often, however, I am trying to give my hair a break this summer so I won't blow dry and flat iron it so much. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I was also considering a texturizer, but I am not certain I want to put chemicals back into my hair.

:welcome4::newbie:

I had Kinky Twists last year and I didn't have any problems with breakage. I would wash my hair (with conditioner-not shampoo) atleast 3-4 times a week and use Worlds of Curls moisturizer daily. (Some people prefer braid spray). Every 3 weeks or so, I would clarify my hair with baking soda and water in an applicator bottle.

Hope this helps. Good luck and happy hair growing.

Welcome...I dont wear kinky twists but I did rock box braids for a month. If i can pass along a word of advice to a newbie it would be to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. I found it easy to moisturize my hair with my little concoction. I would mix, jojoba oil, coconut oil, glycerin, rosewater, and vitka oil in a spritz bottle that I keep refrigerated and 3-4 times a week I would squirt my hair.

First off, WELCOME!!! Secondly, you are right that all the heat isn't good for the hair. Have you considered wrapping your hair after flat ironing to help maintain that style so you won't have to use heat everyday? Simply wrapping the hair around your head, adding moisture or oil sheen and tying it at night. As for the kinky twists, I don't see anyting wrong with it. Just another form of braids. I, personally, am currently transitioning to natural and will be rocking a lace wig for the summer and then some. My edges breaks off too easy for braids.

Welcome aboard and HHG!!!:yep:

Also, I totally agree w/ trendsetta25. Be sure to moisturize your kinky twists often. I use leave-ins to moisturize while I'm in braids.

Thanks everyone for welcoming me and giving me suggestions. I hope that with the kinky twists I am able to give my hair a rest for at least 2 months. I'll be at the beach alot in August, so I will make sure to bring leave in conditioner.

Has anyone had a texturizer? Would anyone recommend them? My hair does a kinky curl in most places, straight in others, and very kinky in some places. Would a texturizer help in loosening the curl and keep me from using the flat iron so much?

Hi there!

I am a huge fan of kinky twists. They helped me retain length last summer, and my sister has had them along with box braids/senegalese twists for the past year and has retained ALL her length. (Pics are in my fotki.) Like everyone else said, just moisturize (and watch those edges) and you will be fine!
