Hi everyone!! I've been lurking on this thread for about a month now and I finally decided to put in that 5 bucks and become an official member! There is so much useful information on this site and I just couldn't stand not being able to search or post any longer:nono: . I'm glad to finally be a part of the LHCF fam:grin:!!!

So for my first official question,
I've been trying to set up a regimen of my own but I've stumbled on a couple of questions along the way. I've been using the whole ORS line for my line of hair care for about a year now (ORS Aloe shampoo, followed by ORS replenishing pak as a weekly conditioner, and sometimes followed by their mayo as a deep conditioner) As a leave in I use either Motions CPR triple action leave in conditioner or Infusiums leave in, and finally moisturize with ORS olive oil.

The problem is my hair is constantly very dry and lacking shine. During the last few months I've noticed an increase in shedding. I'm starting to think I have protein overload and need more moisture. However, I'm not sure which of these products is considered good for moisture and good for protein so that I can minimize or increase their uses . I'm sure the mayo is protein, but what about the aloe, replenishing pak, and all the other products I've mentioned? And also, I've been hearing about these dominican products. What are Salerm, Miss Key en 1 and Lacio Lacio considered?

Ok....wow....I didn't realize how long this post was going to be. Sorry!!!!!! Thanks for all of the help!!!

Most of the ORS line is protein heavy. You're going to have to find a moisturizing deep conditioner that you like, such as Nexxus Humectress, Keracare Humecto, Mizani Moisturefuse or Neutrogena Triple Moisture daily deep conditioner. The Salerm and Lacio Lacio are Dominican leave-in condtioners an Miss Key en 1 is a deep con.

The ORS replenishing pak is very moisturizing but it does contain protein. I've never experienced dryness afterwards -but everyone's hair reacts differently. That in combination with the ORS mayo might be the culprit.

Infusium never agreed with my hair. My hair strands actually felt like they fused together right before snapping off.

Just wanted to say welcome! I think the ORS line is pretty protein intense. The ORS Replenishing is more moisturizing than strengthening though..its my favorite deep conditioner.

You also might want to look into a more moisturizing leave in (my hair hated infusium--made it very brittle) and u may want to experiement with moisturizers as well.

How often are u moisturizing? Are you sealing in the moisture with any oils or serums? That will help ur hair hold more moisture as well.

I agree. In addition, based on what you stated, you're not using a water based moisterizer on your hair. Olive oil seals in moisture, but so far other than the DC's, you haven't added any. Try a nice hair lotion like Profective Megagrowth, ORS hair lotion, BB Hair Lotion, or Hollywood Olive Oil creme or Carrot Creme. All of these are water based and do not contain petrolium or minerl oil which is good. After applying one of these, you can then apply the olive oil to seal it all in. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the welcomes and answering my questions!

I do moisturize everyday (to clarify, I meant ORS olive oil lotion) but in terms of oils, I do seal with something. Its by African Natural and its called 10 in 1 oil. I was thinking that I need to get on the bandwagon with these oils that you all are using but for now this is what I have laying around. I don't know how good it is, but it smells good. Maybe I need to get something better?
The ingredients are in this order: Soybean oil, sesame seed oil, olive oil, almon d oil, meadowflower oil, castor oil, jojoba oil, vitamin e, aloe vera oil, carrot oil, wheat germ oil, birch extract, burdock root extract, coltsfoot extract, coneflower extract, dandelion extract, horsetail extract, carrageenan extract, jaborandi extract, nettle extract, rosehips extract, rosemary extract, sambucus extract, yeast extract, yellow extract, wild cherry bark extract, and fragrance.

Welcome!

I think your problem is the mayo, the cpr, & the infusium. That's too much protein for weekly use. I would just poo & then d/c with the ORS Pak for now. Find a leave-in that's more moisturizing.

Salerm 21 & lacio lacio are moisturizing w/ protein leave-ins. They are pretty good for detangling and lots of people love lacio lacio for sets because it is very light. I don't think they'd be bad for weekly use. Not sure about the 10en1, though. HTH!

ETA: The oil you're using doesn't sound bad at all.
