*NEWBIE* Soo... I paid $180 for braids and....

...not even a month later i feel if i do not take these out i'll go insane .I was about to be induced so i figured I'ld get braids so my hair would be one less thing to worry about. So first, i went to a place i never been before and originally they quoted me $150, which was okay with me, granted my hair was in a bun. The stylist was getting ready to determine my hair color so she took my hair out of the bun then said "umph" followed by a long pause. I was getting nervous so I asked, "Is everything alright?" and she said I believe I "misquoted" you, your hair is long ???? so we would have to braid further, she told me it would not be that much, so I let her proceed. I'm naturally thrifty when it comes to spending for my hair so i divided up 150 by 3 months, the time i figured my braids would last and spending $30 a moth for hair is a stretch, but reasonable considering the circumstance. When she finished she said it was 180!!! I was like my hair is that long!!!! (It's barely shoulder length). I was satisfied nevertheless so I shelled out the 180.

Fast forward a little over a month and i got an inch of new growth! Aw, hell naw!!! Your purpose was not to grow, it was to look presentable, which I cannot do with FB syndrome (floating braids). Now I'm mad I paid $180 for this. I will be rocking a pony tail for the remaining two months, crazy looking or not.

The baby is so cute...

If you want to take them out, take them out...or, have you considered getting the perimeter redone? That would be about an inch or two around the hairline...so, when you wear your ponytail (and even down really), people will only see the fresher, tighter braids around your hairline. Just an idea. I've done that one before and it was a lot cheaper than paying for a full head of fresh braids.

If you want to take them out, take them out...or, have you considered getting the perimeter redone? That would be about an inch or two around the hairline...so, when you wear your ponytail (and even down really), people will only see the fresher, tighter braids around your hairline. Just an idea. I've done that one before and it was a lot cheaper than paying for a full head of fresh braids.

Try doing it yourself. i self braid and if its just the perimeter you can have a go. just take each one down at a time and rebraid. Robin's site shows you how if you dont alrdy know...

Your family is beautiful, look at this way your hair is growing and know you know not to go back to that braider again. I don't like people to change their minds about prices what would of happen if you didn't have the extra funds?

Grl, I know what you talking about, that's one of the reasons why I braided my own hair 3 weeks ago. It's about shoulder length and I was able to do box braids w/extensions to my entire head... It took the whole day but I saved some money doing it myself. Right now I'm contemplating redoing them because they are growing out but I'm not giving those people my money to rip out my edges among other things...If you could, maybe instead of taking them completely out, you could redo them when you have some down time from you baby. I learned how to do box braids when I was pregnant because I had my sister put them in and I maintained them by re-doing them myself. Plus, it's much easier to braid now because it's already parted... all that's left for you to do is to take it down, comb and rebraid.. It's worth giving it a try...

thank you for the advice. I actually braided a head or two in my day, but when it comes to my own I get so tired easily. I guess because I have no one giving money to motivate me.
