Hi LHCF! I've been around for a few months now, but finally subscribed and am ready to begin healthy hair growing/maintenance. I've included a few pics post airdrying and loosening plaits.

- Relaxed 4a (I think)
- Currently armpit length (or very close to it) - I desire brastrap length
- Very thin/damaged edges & nape (really want to fill/grow this area back in)
- Been shedding for awhile
- Regimen: I usually go to my stylist bi-weekly, but want to care for my hair at home. I've been washing bi-weekly with J/A/S/O/N shampoo, & AO HSR Conditioner. I use AO GPB for DC every now & again. I usually section my hair in quads, apply olive oil, & plait it so that it can airdry. I run the flat iron through it and wrap it up from that point. I use olive oil 2x a week to maintain the shine. This was done on yesterday and I will flat iron it today.
- Last Relaxer was on January 14, 2010...usually relax every 10-12 weeks.

I know I need to beef up the regimen and welcome any suggestions or advice you all may have. For starters, I just purchased Jane Carter's Nourish & Shine and her Leave-In.

Hi, welcome to LHCF. I'm glad you stopped lurking and joined :yep:

Reading through your reggie, I wasn't exactly clear on how often you are flat ironing? Are you flat ironing every two weeks? So like 26 times per year?

Welcome to the forum. Wrapping your hair every night my be one of the sources of your thin/damaged edges & nape. Especially if you tie in the back. I recommend applying castor oil to those problem areas. Also, I would discontinue relaxing or stretch longer in those problem areas.

I generally flatiron every 2 weeks...on rare occasions weekly (like when I'm 8 wks post I may put more heat to stretch me).

Hi gvin89!

Exactly how long have you been shedding? When you relax, do you relax your edges and nape as well?

I know I need to beef up the regimen and welcome any suggestions or advice you all may have. For starters, I just purchased Jane Carter's Nourish & Shine and her Leave-In.

Here are a few suggestions that may be able to help.

1. Essential oils like peppermint/rosemary mixed with a carrier oil can be massaged onto your edges and nape to stimulate growth.
2. Maybe start washing on a weekly basis followed by a protective style such as buns, twist outs and rollersets.
3. Lay off the flat iron for a while
4. DC with a more moisturizing one, AO GPB is more protein based but IMO for my hair it doesnt really add moisture to it
5. Shedding: Hot oil treatment with infused garlic, or add garlic to a deep conditioner

welcome :)

thus far, what have you been using for moisture? i saw where you said you DC, but am i correct that then you just add EVOO and plait it up? for example, are you using a leave-in and/or moisturizing daily, especially those trouble areas? i noticed you purchased the jane carter leave-in, so that will hopefully work for you. also, maybe switching to coconut oil instead of using EVOO twice a week would be better for you...it penetrates the hair shaft (and therefore moisturizes) and also imparts incredible shine.

i think no longer relaxing your trouble zones, or maybe relaxing them every other touchup, is a great idea. they need to be babied as much as possible!

happy hair growing!

@amwcah - I think my shedding is post-partum...that's been going on for about 6 months. It's not big handfuls or anything, but enough for me to notice.

@lilsparkle - As far as moisture, I don't moisturize daily (don't beat me) - that's where I need help because I know I should. I actually have coconut oil, but I only use it on my daughter's hair. I will give that a try with the JCS Leave-in.

I used WGO on my edges for awhile, but not consistently. I also tried biotin, but didn't notice a change. Any other product/supplement suggestions??

I thank you all for your warm welcome & advice...I will put these things into motion & keep yall posted.

Hey welcome!

My sides were an issue which is why I joined LHCF. I stress out and then I bald out :lachen:. Anyway, I have for approximately 3 months been massaging my scalp with rosemary oil mixed with rosemary extract. Sure I smell like a lamb but I have a lot of new growth.

I would try this and massage 10 minutes, daily! Then if you must use a scarf I would tie it more on my forehead and make sure the knot in the back is not touching your hairline.

Hope this helps.

Here is my new growth photo from the very thinnish balding spot -->

Welcome aboard!!!:yep:

I've been using ylang ylang and Bee Mine Growth Serum for my edges since the start of this month, so hopefully my edges will improve.

Also, I've been wearing my satin bonnet over my ears to keep the stress off of my edges.
