I'm so very glad to have found this forum. It was on a fluke as I was looking for Elucence Relaxer. My hair length is mid-neck. It's a bit shorter than the picture (I trimmed the ends - which I'm now seeing is not a good thing).

I have hair in the 4 category but I'm not sure if it's a or b because I've been overdoing the relaxer. Is there anyone in VA that can help me get started on the tricks of growing out the hair. Are hard rollers at p.m. a bad thing?

I'd also like to know how to get into the challenges. I have some weight to loose and hair to grow :). I need help!

Central meaning which part :) Im in RIhcmond and I can point you to a few good places around here. Im nto too sure about hard rolelr at ngiht. I guess it would be betetr to do the soft ones or either pin curls. Hard rolelr shurt my head at night.... Good salons are few and far betwwen around these parts. But I can try to point out some nice spots. As far as growing out your hair thats easy. Hair most of the time grows. Its the breakage and retaining the hair that people have problems with  What is your current regimine (how often you relax, with what, do you do your own hair, how often you use heat, what products you use, how do you wear your hair regularly, etc)

I'm in Waynesboro - which is definitely not Richmond :) . I moved from TN and unfortunately my hair decided not to come along (I think it was the shock of a rural area).

I like what you said, yes, my hair does grow, but it's retaining that's the problem. Currently, my regimen is: Elucence relaxer every 6 wks., KeraCare or Pantene shampoo, motions CPR every other, and Cantu hair strengthener. I'm excited because I just got my Elucence products today from Perfect Image. So I will switch over to that line of products. I am now repenting for all of the blow-drying and flat ironing I've been doing. I set my hair myself for the first time in 2 years.

WOOOOWEEE! I dont know nuffin bouit no Waynesboro! I dont even know anyone who lives out there... How far is that from Richmond? What otehr couties are out there?

wow.. isn't waynesboro like near the TN border??... i'm in Hampton Roads so i doubt that i can help point you to any salons or anything... but i'm sure we all can point you to some websites to order stuff for home delivery... ... as far as challenges, just keep your eyes open for when they start and jump on the bandwagon.... OR, start your own and recruit some buddies... OR do some self-challenges ( i do lots of those without ever posting)... oh, and there are some challenges that are pretty much just open (like the Turbo Jam challenge for weight loss)...

anyway, the knowledge that you gain from here will definitely get you on your way to healthy hair growth.. and any questions that you have, i'm sure you'll find an expert or two that can help you out...

I live in Northern VA but my inlaws live in Lynchburg. I believe Waynesboro is near Charlottesville (about 40 miles via I-64). You can probably either visit Payne's Beauty Supply or order online from them. The website is www.paynesbeautysupply.com. You can probably find a salon in Lynchburg which should be 50 miles+ away using Highway 501. I'm not sure about the hair resources in Staunton or Lexington other than Super Walmart.

You should be able to get Keracare at JCPenney (both towns) and Trade Secret (Lynchburg). Both cities also have Sally Beauty Supply.

If you need stylist recommendations PM me, I can ask my sister-in-law about Lynchburg. I have a friend who gets a Mizani relaxer at Hair Cuttery in Charlottesville.

Good Luck with your hair journey!

Waynesboro is between Charlottesville and Roanoke. I am about 1 1/2 hours from Richmond. We are definitely in the country; population of 19,000. After moving from Chattanooga, TN it was a real shocker.

There are some ladies on the forum from the Roanoke Valley Area and they should be able to help you.

I sleep in hard rollers for a few nights after I've set my hair; have since childhood. I use clips instead of the plastic curler covers, and never had a problem--no breakage whatsoever from curlers (stretching my relaxer was another matter entirely, tho).

I've tried pincurling, but hated how the bobby pins pulled. Sometimes I put it on top of my head in a scrunchy, or just roll it up into one big unpinned curl at the back of my head and wrap a scarf around to keep it there.

When you're thinking about growing your hair, take into account what kind you have--thick, thin, fine, coarse--how well it grows in general. Some things here that work for some don't work for all; I've found out thru experimenting that some of the most widely touted solutions just didn't work for my fine, 4a hair. It's a lot of trial and error, but go forth wisely, with a good sense of your own hair and personal needs, and you'll be fine!
