Newbi saying hello

Hi everyone :newbie: !
I have been lurking for a few weeks and had to break down and purchase a subscription today. I just have to say there is some beautiful hair on this site! It has been such an encouragement for me to see Black women both natural and relaxed who have achieved midback and waist length hair.

Currently my hair is barely (and I do mean barely) hitting the top of my bra strap when it is straight. In its natural state, which is how I wear it most of the time, it is right at shoulder length. My goal is for my straight hair to be between mid back and waist length (about 30 inches; I am about 5 inches away). At this length my hair will look somewhere between APL and BSL curly.

I have found so much helpful information here but I do have a few questions. I read the thread for those of us starting out and I saw the baggie technique mentioned; can this be done with hair that is long and thick? If so, how? It seems like such a great way to care for your ends and maximize the benefits of protective styling so I would love to try it.

My second question is about vitamins. I started taking biotin and a multivitamin a while back. I did not have any problems with my skin but it had adverse affects on my nails. My nails are usually quite strong and I have no problem growing them long, but when I started taking the vitamins my nails became very brittle and would break easily. Because nails and hair are made up of the same thing I got worried that the vitamins might be adversely affecting my hair as well and I stopped taking them. Has anyone else had this experience with biotin or other vitamins or have an idea why this happened to me:ohwell: ? I would love your input on this.

Well that is all for now I apologize for this being so long I am just so excited to finally be able to participate and interact with you ladies
:yay: . TIA.

Hello!!!

You should have no problems at all doing the baggie method at all! (Lovely hair by the way!) I do mine at night, I put some s-curl on my hair and jojoba on my ends to seal it in. I get one of those sandwich baggies and cover it up, hold it secure with a scrunchie, tie down the rest of my hair and call it a night! I wear my hair in a bun pretty much everyday, so when I take the scarf and baggie down, my edges are already laying down perfectly and the rest of my hair goes in the bun for the day. My ends are still moist even after I take it down by the end of the day.

I too use a multi-vitamin with some additional biotin. It's really been working well for me though.
