A friend told me about this board and I absolutely love it! :) Every chance I get, I find myself right here. I'm at work right now and should be grading papers or lesson plans, but here I am!

I'm transitioning to natural hair (last relaxer 07/04) and am currently wearing two strand twists (with extensions) to give my hair a break. I've had them in for 5 weeks and plan to leave them out for a week before I get them back in. I plan on taking them out this weekend. As a newbie, a have a few questions:

1) I plan on using the Aphogee protein treatment when I take them out. The bottle says DO NOT use a plastic cap. I thought I read some posts somewhere where some of you do use a cap? Do any of you that use this treatment, use it with or without a plastic cap?

2) What's the best moisturizing conditioner to use after this treatment that will also help with tangles?

3) I'm familiar with the phonyponies site for "afro" textured attatchments. Are there any other websites similiar to this where I can purchase something similiar to an afro puff? I can't find any in the beauty supply stores with the right texture.

Sorry for the long post. Thank all of you very much in advance for your responses. :)

Sorry I don't have any advice for you while transitioning (but there are plenty of ladies who will) but I wanted to say welcome!

Welcome!!!!

1)Its impossible to use the product with a plastic cap because it hardens when left on the hair and thats the only way for it to be effective. Someone else might dilute it but if you are using it according to the direction do no use a plastic cap. I have used this every month since 2000. Its messy and stinks but works well to strengthen and protect.

I can't help you with 2 or 3, I'm sure someone else will be chiming in soon.

Good luck!

I would NOT use a cap the bottle is correct you apply and sit under the dryer it gets rock hard. Then use good moisturizing conditioner like kercare. The other site that might have afro puff is www.especiallyyours.com They have alot of phonyponies but not 100% if they have afro puffs.

KeraCare Humecto or Nexxus Humectress, are good moisturizing conditioners....there are quite a few people use on this board. I'm sure you will get more responses.

Apoghee gets hard on your scalp that's why no cap is needed. I would not wear a cap.

I'm a transitioner here with no advice on the questions you've asked. Just wanted to say welcome to the forum and best wishes to you while you transition. :)

Hello! Welcome to LHCF! :) I'm not transitioning, as my hair is relaxed, but I have had great results with Nexxus Humectress as a moisturizing conditioner. Sorry, I've never used Aphogee's protein treatment. I use Nexxus Keraphix.

WELCOME KIARA!!!!

regarding your questions: (btw i have been transitioning since novermber)
1. when i did use aphogee i used it without a cap. however, i wouldn't use it anymore... it did not do anything for my hair. i would look at another protein treatment. there was a thread about it ... try searching for protein for recommendations. some people like nexxus emergencee, or ao gbp. i like ion keratin reconstructor or ion effective care treatment
2. after a harsh protein i would use ntm hair mask or ntm's daily deep conditioner. those products!!
3. cant help you there bc ive never had one
