Hi Ladies. I am new to the forum. I have to say, I really enjoy this forum and it is very informative. I currently have my hair relaxed and from about March my new growth is texturized. I did my touch up on my own last April and I under processed the back area. I currently used Motion w/ oil (mild). I am on my 13th week of needing a relaxer. I wanted to wait longer but the under process area is really kinky and has a lot a new growth which is tangling too much. Whenever I go to a salon to relax they totally take the elasticity away from my hair making it BREAKABLE...sorry for the long post. So I am attemping to retouch tomorrow and I desperatley need advice.
These are the problems I encounter last touch up in April
1. Ran out of time and under processed the back area
2. The area that I first applied my relaxer got a couple of burn spots ( the front area...I know...I should have applied the relaxer to the crown area first)

Thank you for any info you guys can give me

This is my web site with my pictures from April.

Welcome. The only thing I would advise is to base, base, base your scalp thouroughly and heavily. I did my own and I didn't burn at all. Another tip I picked up from Peachtree is to practice your application technique with regular conditioner(excellent tip Peachtree!). Then do the real thing when you feel you have picked up some speed. There were several threads on this. I'll see if I can find them and post them.

Welcome! I use Affirm lye in mild along with their 5 n 1 reconstructor. I used AmilLion's method and I covered my hair with a plastic cap an sat under the dryer for 5 mins with the relaxer in my hair and it came out wonderful considering I just took out micros a couple days ago.Her method should be in self relaxing1 or 2 which sweetcocoa has already posted.
Good luck

This is a great site and I know you will learn a lot from everyone here because I have and my husband is glad I finally found a good site for women of color and growing their hair.

Re: New to the forum and need some advice on relax

I re-touched my hair today and here are my issues. I relaxed my hair in two halves which I parted into 6 smaller sections because although I used Motions w. Oil (mild), my hair relaxes to a texturized point within 15 minutes...I applied the relaxer in 7 minutes and smooth out for the next 8 minutes or so... Since my hair processes so quickly, I had to do one half of my head first then after I completed smoothing, rinsing, and neutralizing then I began the other half which was covered with a plastic cap. I did not under process this time...thank God
1. I put some cholestrol on my previous relaxed hair incase I overlapped...but I found that it was difficult for me to part each section as I applied the relaxer because my ends where too moist.
2. I tried to apply the relaxer with a tint brush but I just did not get it..it was taking me longer

so I used my finger tips to apply the relaxer to the new growth...

I did not under process this time but my application technique sucks beccause I accidently applied some to my previous relaxed hair and had to quickly remove it....
