Okay...An old high school friend saw me a couple of months ago and said she is doing hair in my area so I decided to give her a try last week. I needed a relaxer and let her put in Affirm mild which is my regular. This is the first time in years some one other than my stylist has put in a relaxer. Well the result was not a good one. My hair still appeared as though I needed a relaxer and my ends were ragged which has never been that way in over 9 months. She placed me under the drier for a deep conditioner with something called J Smooth conditioner. I have never heard of that. I have washed my hair twice since then and my ends are not okay. Oh and she relaxed my hair for I know a good 40 minutes. I should have spoken up I know but I did not think it would be so damaging. Also, I believe the major culprit was that foreign conditioner which probably was not washed out good. And to add to the list of reasons that I will not be returing to her, another sylist in there was putting leftover relaxer from a client back into the big tub. I was like how gross and cheap. I have since put my hair in a bun and will be moisturizing it well for a couple of weeks. I also did an Aphogee treatment which I do not know if it helped or or made it worst. Any other suggestions ladies. Sorry such a long post.

Leftover relaxer, from what the comb? That is soooo nasty.
Anywho. I would do a moisturizing deep conditioner once a week with heat for 15-20 min. and see if that helps.

The leftover relaxer is what she had put in a bowl to do her client's hair. My stylist used Affirm which did not come from a tub. The tub of relaxer they used is referred to as Esations (sp?) I have never heard of it. I have looked for it online and can not find it anywhere. Does anyone know of it. A lot of the products I have never heard of. WHAT IS J SMOOTH CONDITIONER?!!!! I thought I might come out of there with good results since I was using my regular relaxer; however, it did not turn out that way.

Thanks qtgirl for the suggestion. I will continue to deep conditioning weekly.

girl u have to be careful...are u sure u got a Affirm relaxer judging from the way it turned out??? and 40 MINUTES thats crazy....just do some treatments and stay far far away from that salon..

I've heard that Essations is a good relaxer; only stylists can get it, but I've never heard of the conditioner she used.

Hope your hair gets back to normal soon.

Sounds like your hair is overprocessed, :( , 40 min is along time, I hope it's just underprocessed because that can be fixed. Just do some DC treatments and it should bounce back soon. Or take a trip to your normal stylist and let her take a look at your hair, she should be able to tell you something.

Yep, what she said.

Also, putting leftover relaxer back to use on another customer is unsanitary and nasty.

I second that you need to bump up your deep conditioning treatments. Be careful with protein because you can make your hair worse right now. deep conditioning weekly should get you back on track. I would also get a good trim on your ends. I know people freak when you mention trimming here but sometimes it is very much needed.

I know from personal experience it can be hard to speak up when your in a stylist chair. Especially one your not too familiar with. It;s a challenge but you have to. Afterall it's your hair they are working on. You suffer the consequences when they do shoddy work. I am sorry you had a bad experience.

Thanks ladies:

Michelle she gave me a trim. At first I thought she used dull scissors or something. After much thought, I figured with this March wind and that foreign deep conditioner (protein based) is what caused my shaggy ends. It is still in a bun today with ORS olive oil on it. Last night it looked much better. I will be deep conditioning this weekend.
