Hi Northernbelle,

I started reading the LHFC last week. During my reading, I noticed that you like the green Ultra Sheen extra dry hair grease. I couldn't believe it. There are still some loyal followers of Ultra Sheen

My hair is relaxed and I used the blue original formula for several years, but then stopped when I changed hairdressers and she said I shouldn't put grease on my scalp. I should mention that my hair was 3 or 4 inches below my shoulders when I was using the blue Ultra Sheen. Now, I miss it and I decided to try the green extra dry formula last week. Have you ever used the blue original formula? If so, was there any difference in your hair?

I just oiled my scalp with the green formula last week and put a little on my ends. I had forgotten how soft the blue ultra sheen made my ends feel. The green seems to be the same way. Also, I note that my hair appears thicker when I oil my scalp. No, I do not plaster my hair with grease.

Do you notice the same thing? I usually wear a wear wrap style and do not oil my scalp. I plan to start alternating to using the Ultra Sheen maybe about 3 weeks of the month and wear a wrapped style (with no grease) during the week prior to touch up time.

As someone stated on this board, all products do not work for everyone. But we both agree on Ultra Sheen.

Hi, ultrasheen!

I can't believe it A kindred spirit!

Anyway, I literally grew up with Ultra Sheen. My mother swears by it. In fact, she is convinced that it grows hair. While I am not as convinced of this as my mother is, I can tell you that my hair was thick and shoulder length when I used it.

At the moment, I am experimenting with natural oils. But I keep a jair of the green Ultra Sheen at the ready, just in case.

I never apply to my ends, as I have fine hair, and doing this would weigh my hair down.

When I was very young, my mother used the blue Ultra Sheen. Can't tell you why she switched to the green; perhaps she found it more moisturizing. In any event, I apply it to my scalp when my hair is freshly washed and dried, and in small amounts. I section my hair into quarters, and apply the Ultra Sheen to those parted sections. I massage gently, and then comb through. I normally do not have to re-apply until the next shampoo. During the winter, however, I might re-apply mid-week.

It has been said that using products like Ultra Sheen merely coat the hair, thereby leaving it more vulnerable to dryness and breakage. While I am giving natural oils a chance at the moment, I am not sure I am fully convinced of the downside of products like Ultra Sheen.

Thanks for paging me! And let's chat again!
