Is your life affected by labels other people placed on you?
Well, it's time to....................
GET RID OF THE NEGATIVE LABELS ON YOUR LIFE!!!
At one time or another, every one of us has been labeled, usually beginning at an early age when a frustrated, immature parent labeled us negatively. They didn't understand what Proverbs 18:21 says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue".
Labels are how we define a person according to our personal view of them and their inability to perform according to our expectations or standards. But, maybe they're unaware of what we expect, or our expectations are unrealistic, or perhaps their past hurts make them rebellious or incapable.
We label people based on our perception of them at that moment, instead of God's mercy and His perception of who they are in Jesus. Unfortunately, when we speak condemning, critical words about their character, a curse is released over them and their destiny.
Words spoken during the early years of a person's life are buried deep in their subconscious mind. As they grow older, they're unaware of the labels and the impact on their life. But, the buried message leaks out in every thought they have about themselves and their destiny. It's so subtle that it can go undetected but will cause many to miss their fulfilled destiny.
A famous industrialist in the 1920's was labeled by his father as stupid and he told him he would never be successful. When he was 16, because of poor grades, his teacher agreed with his father's label and advised him to quit school and get a job. The teacher told him he wasn't smart enough to graduate high school, so he accepted the label, quit school and held a menial job for ten years.
But, one day his company gave every employee an IQ test and he discovered that he was a genius! From that day on, he shed the label of being ignorant and unsuccessful and took on the label of being a genius. His whole life changed and he became a wealthy and famous man.
Can you think of labels that people have placed on you? Some can just be laughed at and shrugged off. But, others have stuck and you shudder at the sound of them. They create a picture inside of what you can and can't do and can and can't be.
Today, many of us still believe the negative labels. They've become curses over our life, setting boundaries that keep us from reaching our God-given potential. They also create an assignment from hell over our life that supports the curse created by the label. People then see us and treat us according to that label.
So what should we do about it?
-Ask God to reveal the labels that were placed on you by a parent or since you're an adult, by someone you respect. That label becomes a curse the moment you believe what they say about you.
-Break the curse by forgiving those people, repenting of accepting those labels and for thinking and repeating them over yourself. Then, appropriate the blood of Jesus and declare that curse to be broken over your life.
-Recognize and accept your identity in Jesus. Know the great life, power and destiny of Jesus that's in you. 2 Corinthians 4:7 expresses how God sees you, "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us." Always see yourself through the eyes of Jesus, not the label someone else put on you.
-Begin to dream again and break free from the false boundaries of those labels by consistently seeing and talking about yourself the way Jesus does. Research the many scriptures that talk about who you are in Jesus and confess them daily until you become them.
-Finally, avoid people who only see and talk about you through the lens of those negative labels, because some people will only view you that way for the rest of your life. Surround yourself with people who can see you through the eyes of Jesus.
Negative labels are Satan's way of holding you back from your God-given right to succeed at what He's called you to. Let this be the day that every label is broken and then refuse to allow anyone to ever label you again!
