Need YOUR Advice!

In the next couple of weeks, I will be going through a series of interviews (about 10) with accounting firms for a full-time internship position for the spring of 2005. I am currently transitioning and have 9 weeks of new growth. I am on the no heat challenge as well...

Should I go ahead and relax my hair and transition to natural later so I can wear a straight or rollerwrap style for my interviews?

Or are there any styles I can wear for an interview that won't make my hair look a mess? I've been wearing braidouts but they really don't look nice enough to wear for an interview. If there is a style I can wear, I want to avoid heat as much as possible.

I like wearing my hair in updos, like a french roll or a bun, for job interviews. New growth will smooth down nicely with some coconut oil and a scarf.

I agree with the ladies, a bun or some kind of updo will look nice. You could use rollers if you want to have some pieces falling at the front. Definitely do the scarf trick, it works everytime. Use a donut to get a nice full looking bun(see DSD's album if you don't know what I mean).

I always wore my hair "pinned up" for job interviews. I think a roller set would be nice, then pin it up.

I would say cheat on the no heat challenge. I would rather do this than get a relaxer if I was transistioning its like starting all over again. Its ok to cheat for an occassion like this. The reason why I don't say do a bun with the new growth is because if you are type 4 like I am then 9 weeks post relaxer those edges are looking pretty bad and putting it in a bun will look bad around the front area and not smooth. So just do the heat this one time. It won't hurt.

I like Kitchen ticians idea about rollersetting it and then pinning it up, and leave some curls out.

Also, if I were u I would consider just going to a salon and getting a wrap style. Ive had this done when it was WAY past due for a relaxer and they can get it silky straight just the same. My stylist would usually flat iron it, then wrap it and put me back under the dryer(with saran wrap over the wrap!), and then comb it down. It would last for a week that way as long as I wrapped it at night and sprayed alittle oil sheen on in the morning. I was good to go.

It's hard to rollerset my hair with the new growth because my newgrowth is spirals. If I try combing my newgrowth with my relaxed hair just to get it in a roller, it's tough!

I think I will do either the infamous bun or attempt the rollerset then just pin it up!

I work for PricewaterhouseCoopers and I think that it is great that you are trying to do an internship with an accounting firm. It will definitely provide more oppotunities for you when you are finished with school.

No, at least not here in Louisville, KY. I never heard of BearingPoint.

I think you could straighten it with heat for this occasion only, and still put it in a bun, so you don't have to get it ultra straight. If the rollerset is too much manipulation, I think a blowdryer and flat iron wouldn't kill you if youu'd slowed down it's se already. That way you take care of your edges and can still have a professional look.

Yeah, I think I will just blowdry my hair very gently in sections on low heat which will take a while to get it dry. I won't be able to get a bun to look right because my edges are too puffy...even after smoothing my edges down, they come back up really poofy. After blowdrying, I will just wrap my hair to get a sleek straight look after unwrapping. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
