I have read several posts where ladies have had their hair in braids and when they took them out they experienced excessive shedding due to not manipulating much while in braids. Can the same thing happen in other styles? What I mean is, I usually plait my hair in four plaits each night then get up and just release the plaits, oil it and put it up or ponytail it. When I do my conditioner wash that night I have a lot of shedding. Could this be due to not manipulating or combing during the day? I hope this makes sense and I appreciate any advice you ladies can give. Thanks.

Hey Jen, actually the less manipulation, the better for our hair, and you do comb it at least once a day right? So that's not a long enough time. Do you deep condition? Do you do protein treatments? Also some oils cause my hair to be hard which leads to breakage. This is not really advice just things for you to think about.

Good points debyjay!

Also Jen, don't forget it is normal to shed 50 - 100 hairs a day. BTW, what conditioner are you using for your conditioner wash?

debyjay and nonie, thanks for replying.

i only comb my hair in the shower when i do my conditioner washes. The past couple nights I have been using vo5 strawberries and cream and other times it has been suave coconut or motions moisture plus. after conditioning i do a leave in, scurl mango butter, then plait or bun. i deep condition once a week and i just did a protein treatment sunday gone with cpr shampoo/ conditioner. the oil i used is evoo or wild growth. i dont have dry hair at all but it always sheds after the shower comb thru and detangling.
