perhaps my expectations are high since i'm a recovering weekly blow-out addict (and most likely used to that soft, smooth feeling) but i feel like my curls look parched! and it doesn't feel like straw, but it doesn't feel moisturized to me.

i used elucence mb and it wasn't bad. i had decent results with a concoction of elucence, shea oil, aloe vera gel and honey. and while my hair felt moisturized, it did feel a little slick!

it seems like nothing is PENETRATING! like its just sitting on top of the my strands. its not as soft as i would like it to be.

any suggestions for good moisture?

also, how are you (esp. naturals) moisturizing daily? are you oiling the hair? oiling the ends? using butters section-by-section? what are you doing for daily moisture? perhaps that's what i need?

I use a mix of shea butter & Lily of the Desert aloe vera gel 1-2 x's a week. My hair has a nice sheen & isn't greasy. I can also smell my V05 Nourishing Oasis lavendar & chamomile conditioner despite the shea mix in my hair. I moisturize each section before I twist. Nightly I spray (the length of my hair) with water & oil (vegetable) to maintain the sheen & moisture & retwist. I also sleep with a satin bonnet.

i spritz daily with a mixture of water, glycerin, liquid aloe vera and eo.

i oil at nite(hair and scalp) with a mixture of rosemary oil, wheatgerm oil and sweet almond oil. I also use apricot kernel oil, evening primrose oil and coconut oil.

i use castor oil and jamaica black castor oil as pre-shampoo treatments on poo days.

i do daily co washes and doctor my conditioner with a little glycerin, liquid aloe vera and a little eo.

Hope this helps a little.

It could be that you have a lot of buildup and/or mineral deposits. Try using a chelating shampoo before you deep condition (condition for at least 30 minutes). This will allow the conditioner to penetrate.

i did a clarifying treatment with lemon, but my hair still looks dull and oils seem to sit on the surface. maybe i will try a chelating shampoo. i'm on the CG routine, so i'm trying to avoid shampoo, but if it'll help moisture penetrate better....

what are good chelating shampoos? any good brand names - or ones to avoid?
