I don't necessary use henna, but i do use cassia. What i have learned is that, when making a paste for your hair, its ALWAYS best to make a smooth paste consistency (meaning NO CLUMPS), for a successful wash out.
I also agree with CURLICARIB, add the tea last the helps to achieve a smooth paste, from there you would be able to tell if you need more or less tea (depending how much of a paste you have mixed). HTH.

I start with oil (castor, jojoba, or evoo.... whatever I have on hand) massaged into my hair. Then I apply the henna gloss or the henna paste and let it sit. After 1-5 hours or so, I rinse in the sink for a long time making sure to get my scalp (any henna left on will make me itch.) Then I start to slather on cheapie conditioner. I don't trust Moisture Milks since I got burned (literally) so I opted for Suave coconut. I work it in, just smoosh (lol don't judge me!
it's a word
) it in, let it sit, then rinse it out. I have to do that on average 3-5 times depending on which I used (gloss vs. paste.)
