NEED HELP STRETCHING

OK Ladies...

I have been promising myself that I would go at least 10 weeks before relaxing again, but I am at that stage where my hair looks TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! I did a roller set, but it was kinda poofy because of the ng (which is a good sign). My buns are starting to look bad because I get that "hump" where I put on the scrunchie because of the thickness. It's getting really hard for me to wait so I need you guys to talk me out of it! My last relaxer was 8/28/06 and the old me would have been running to the salon this weekend for a retouch.

I guess I should mention that the center of my hair ended up being really underprocessed because the Dominican lady did not base me at all before applying relaxer (after a 6 month stretch) and she had to take it out because my head was on fire, so I am dealing with underprocessed/texlaxed/straight hair. Any suggestions on how to hold out at least until the end of the month?

This is what I used to do. I don't have any particular products b/c i was never a PJ.

1. Wash and conditioner your hair as normal
2. Detangle hair completely
3. Seperate hair going across head, not front to back, and brush the ng
4. As you are doing that apply some gel or whatever moisturize you use at each part.
5. Brush hair into pony, brush down sides and tie up at night.

I was just about to write this exact post! I've been seeing that some people have been putting S-Curl to soften the texture of their new growth but I haven't tried that yet. Im trying to stretch for 12 weeks. I stretched from 1/10/06 until 4/22/06 and my hair grew but that was before I was even on this site and now i know much more so it should grow even more. But I did a rollerset this weekend (I put up a pic) and its thick and dry as ever.

I agree with the first reply, except I would lay off of the brush so much. I only brush my edges.

Also, keep your hair hydrated; when detangling, comb under the flow of the shower.

I agree.............

Since I did my first stretch this summer I realized that when I use to think I needed a perm after 4-5 weeks I was really needing some moisture - my hair was dry, stiff, and KINKY!!! but I found that moisturizing it relaxed it without a perm. When I had my crisis I used KeraCare Humectant Conditioner and it made a world of difference. Also, oils have helped me tremendously and the water-based stuff only made it worse when it dried. What type of moisturizers are you using? Keep experimenting but believe me when I say you can make those 10 weeks!!!

There is another thread about stretching that was discussed a few days ago. If you haven't done so already, check it out - Hair Stretching 101

I'm transitioning and my newgrowth is really starting to come in. Not to mention, I realized that the last touch-up I gave myself led me to be underprocessed in some areas in the back of my head. Anyhoo, after washing and conditioning my hair, I'd usually rollerset it. After taking down the rollers, my newgrowth is smoothed out a bit. I then comb out the curls and brush my hair back with some type of moisturizer (Qhemet Biologics Alma & Olive Heavy Cream). I'll pin it up in the back and tie on a scarf. The scarf allows my hair (especially in the crown) to lay flat and stay put in the front, that way I don't have to fight with it to try to get it to lay down when I'm putting my hair in a bun. HTH

Thanks Ladies!

I c/ washed and dc'd tonight. I did notice that the NG laid down a little more. I do think my hair was just suffering from dryness. I did my first roller set this weekend, and my hair was kinda dry from sitting under the dryer. Next question: what are some good ways to keep your roller sets moisturized and curled? I wrapped it last night, and this morning my hair was crunchy...
