Need help....hair with two textures question

Hello ladies,
I have not relaxed in over a year and I have a decent amount of new growth and a good amount of relaxed ends. I originally wanted to go natural but am not sure anymore. I want the option to wear my hair straight or curly without spending an entire day styling. My question is, can I flat iron with two textures about 1-2 times a month and still achieve length and retention...my goal is bsl full. Or for the health of my hair is it better to just go ahead and relax my new growth and stretch between relaxers?
I feel like I want to grow long hair so that I can do whatever I want with it while maintaining healthy hair care. Im wondering if anyone with transitioning hair can use heat twice a month and still reach their goals. Please help me.

I just got out of braid extensions. before that I was using Giovanni leave in and sealing with castor oil daily. I was wearing Bantu knot outs daily. I wash and deep condish weekly. I use the flat iron to straighten every now and then with gatniet heat protectant.

First of all let me congratulate you on not relaxing in over a year. I know it is not easy, however if you have worked this hard and lasted this long you should continue. Consider your goals. You have to do what is best for you. It is possible to flat iron during transition, there are some on this hair board that did, however you may want to decrease it to monthly instead of every 2 wks. You should also subscribe to the Transitioners thread and Allandra's thread "For those wanting long hair". DO a search on youtube for Transitioning to Natural hair...Nina Pruitt is a good example of a long term transitioner. She transitioned in almost 2 yrs. Whimsy did it in almost 2 yrs. Some others BC and sported beautiful TWA's...ChakaKhanian, Fleurtzy, etc. Stay strong...don't let others deter you from your goals and do you, because in the end you have to be the one that is satisfied. :yep:

My blog is all about my transition for 104 weeks (2 years) and I used heat. In fact, I use Brazilian Keratin Treatments. However, I did not use heat every 2 weeks. Usually, I would BKT with flat ironed hair and not flat iron again until my next BKT.

Straight hair on a natural head does take a lot of time. It's not usually a 1 hour process unless you go to a salon for a blowout and flat iron, which may not include deep conditioning for any decent amount of time. In my mind deep conditioning is required to keep natural hair straight - otherwise you get reversion from the hair sucking moisture from the air.

I'm not at all familiar with btk but did that help you use heat with less damage?
