Need Help! Color "Undo" Possible?

I got my hair dyed at a salon a permanant auburn color 2 weeks ago but I have decided to hide my hair under a sew-in for the next several weeks (I haven't had a sew in in 6 years, and I've only had 2 in my life). If that sew-in goes well, I will probably continue to get them throughout the winter.

Soooo, my question is, I know that when you have color it is very drying and can cause hair to split and break so I've been increasing my moisture level. However, with my hair under a sew-in I will not be able to moisturize or deep condition it. Is there a way to "undo" the color so that it won't be there anymore ??? I know that's a silly question but I'm for real, I don't know much about color. Is it safe to do a sew-in with this color in it? How will I maintain my hair underneath since it's color treated? Or will it be "safe" because I'm not manipulating it? Someone please explain it to me like I'm 5

Clairol makes a product that strips color. I found it in my local drug store but can't remember the exact name. I tried it to strip a red rinse color and it didn't work. I believe it is intended for freshly colored hair so I am unsure about the 2 weeks. Hopefully some more experienced color wearers will chime in.

It doesn't matter if you strip the color or dye your hair back to its original color. You can't undo the chemical process. Your hair will still be color treated/chemically altered and it will still retain the effects of being chemically altered.

ItsMeFre girl you know your instagram is private Anyway I would just leave it alone. Like someone else said they have those products that will strip the color off but they too are very drying. Plus they don't change it back to your original color. I would just wait a few more weeks and do a lot of DCs in the mean time. And then really moisturize before getting it done.

I would think the fact that it's braided would protect it right?

If you strip the colour then that will be a triple process, 1st time was the colour 2nd time would be stripping the colour out, then I guess having to redeposit more colour back in, it's easier to just deep condition more than usual and wait it out. You could just let it grow out and have that ombre look.

If you must colour I'd give it at least 6 months, then just colour over it, don't strip colour it will wreck your hair it will make your hair like straw. If you're in hurry wait 2-3 months then colour it should be safe by then, but your hair will still be dry, so DC, moisturize weekly, and if you're natural mist daily. HTH

I 2nd that, you really need to moisturize your real hair under the sew in or it will come out dry healthy.

Thank you ladies!!! @naturalglow I honestly forgot it was private when I posted that at work . @ManeStreet I guess I need to educate myself on how to maintain a weave because I didn't think you'd be able to get to your real hair to moisturize it because it's under a weave and braided up.

I wore two weaves in 2011. I had both in for about 10-12 weeks. You definately want to moisurize while in a weave. Its actually a perfect time to do it. You just lift each track & spray your braided hair. When its wash time you can easily deep condition by getting an applicator bottle and squirting the dc mixed with water onto your own hair and dc like usual. Hopefully u have a hooded dryer because after washing/conditioning you want to make sure your hair is 100% dry.

I used oyin juices & berries as my moisturizer when I had my weave but make sure you find a spray moisturizer that your hair & scalp loves & use it religously while your weave is in.

Your hair looks good. Let it be. Stripping the color will be very drying. It's not worth it.
