Hey everybody. Today is D day for me (aka do my relaxer after an 8 week stretch). I plan to use silk elements with proclaim as the neutralizer. Can you please let me know what is a good reconstructor that I can pick up? I have a lot of conditioners at home but I don't know if any of them are "reconstructors".

HELP!

The Aphogee Keratin 2min reconstructor is really good. I love that stuff!

The texture is really nice and easy to apply to delicate freshly relaxed hair.

Are you looking for a heavy treatment, medium, or a light one??

I just bought Joico K-Pak (medium), I haven't tried it yet. But I bought it because of the outstanding reviews here. Affirm 5-in-1 (medium) gets great reviews. Nexxus Emergency (heavy) worked well for me. And I've heard great reviews about Dudley's DRC (heavy). HTH!!

I don't know if it qualifies as a reconstructor but self relaxed last night and use motions neutralizing conditioner. It really helped surge all the moisture and strength into my hair while the cuticle was open. I really felt a diffence, barely lost any hair.

Thanks ladies. All of these sound like protein treatments. Is that what a reconstructor is? If so, I already have Motions CPR and Nexxus Emergencee at home but I was under the impression that you shouldn't use protein right after a relaxer. Is that correct? I'm a little confused.

I'm a little confused about the difference between protein treatments, protein conditioners, and reconstructors as well. I just use heavy, medium, and light. That's how I referred to the different brands above.

And actually it's my understanding that relaxers (or chemicals period) break down the strength in your hair, and therefore you need protein. Now whether or not you use it before or after the relaxer, I don't know about that.

I have used both of these and they are both very good products.

Affirm 5 in 1 reconstructor, it great to use straight after relaxing and before neutralizing also it is ph 6.0 so gets rid of some of the alkali left in your hair from the relaxer

I used the Ultra Sheen Duo Tex. I rinsed out the relaxer and applied the Duo Tex, rinsed and washed with nuetralizer shampoo. HTH

Hey ladies - thanks for the advice. The relaxer straightened my hair so fast that I got nervous and just wanted to rid myself of the chemical as quickly as possible so I rinsed the relaxer and went straight for the neutralizer. Now, that I know I need to use Silk Elements Mild, I will try the reconstructor step before neutralizing next time.
