This thread sort of has to do with the thread about a lot of naturals wanting to relax/texturize lately. Why do you want to stay natural? As for me, I will not relax again because:
). I've been there done that with texturizing, and I will never do it again because the grass wasn't greener. I got a rude awakening that chemical treated hair isn't easier to take care of.
). Transitioning takes too long, and I'm not about to cut my hair again. My hair was nearly waist length when I cut it in January to get rid of my texturized ends. It's growing back in good time, but I'm not about to go through that again.
). I had enough of the salons and touch up drama, having to have that done every 3-5 months. When I had a lot of new growth, I loved how bushy and thick my hair was, and then, I'd go to the salon, and after having my hair touched up, the chemicals seemed to deflate my nice big hair, and I was always disappointed.
). After every touch up, I always felt like I had ruined my hair. Here I was taking vitamins to improve the quality of my hair, and then, I was breaking my hair down with chemicals. Then I'd use protein treatments to try to build it up again---to only break it down again. What a crazy cycle!
). With texturized hair, even if I went to the same salon with the same hair dresser, my hair never came out the same way twice because hair dressers get in a hurry. Also most hair dressers wanted to make my hair straighter than it was, so it was "easier" for them to deal with.
). I got tired of dealing with more than one texture and trying to detangle all that stuff. My hair is sooooooooooooo easy to comb now with one texture. I don't have to spend hours trying to detangle.
). My natural hair is soft. My texturized hair always felt rough.
). When I was texturized, I used to play with my roots because they were curly and springy and the rest of my hair wasn't. Now, all my hair is springy from roots to tip.
). At one time I thought I needed a texturizer to make my hair more manageable; however, I found out after becoming natural again that I can wear my hair in exactly the same styles as I wore my texturized hair, but now my hair is just thicker.
). I had thinner edges when I texturized. Now, my edges are thick.
). My hair is curly without having to sit under a dryer forever trying to do a roller set.
). My hair breaks less.
). To me, natural hair is more interesting with curls and waves and wooly bigness. I look at pictures of my texturized hair now, and the texture just doesn't compare to the beauty I see in my texture now. My old texture looks like a watered down version of my current texture---the curls aren't defined; they just looked limp.
). I get A LOT more compliments as a natural, from other naturals and relaxed heads.
). Fairly often I hear people talking about how hard natural hair is to take care. I'm staying natural because IMHO, natural hair (all types) is easier to take care of than chemically treated hair. Our hair doesn't have to be beaten into submission with constant heat, or chemicals to be beautiful and manageable. I've seen some beautiful heads on this board from all textures. As for me, I will not be going back to relaxers.
