Naturals - who doesn't do there own hair?

Are there any naturals who DON'T do their own hair and leave it to a hairdresser/stylist to look after it?

I ask because i just can't manage my own hair. Its been two years and to be honest i don't know even how i have the hair on my head i have now.

The curls just intertwine with each other and no matter how much moisture or deep conditioning i do, when i comb, it breaks off badly. Yet when i go to a salon the comb glides through my hair.

I watch what they do and the products they use but can't get the same results.

I'm not gaining length because of ME and no matter how patient i am my hair breaks when i look after it.

I recently had a fantastic press and my hair wasn't breaking when i combed it and it lasted for 2 weeks and was eay to look after.

I'm considering just going to a salon once every two weeks and getting them to wash and blow dry and then i'll come home and just do the rest myself. And every now and again getting it pressed.

I know this will be costly (i'm in the UK) but if i want a long, healthy head of hair i think i'm gonna have to go down this path.

Any thoughts?

I think your plan sounds like a great idea. Not everyone can get good results with doing their own hair, especially when it comes to applying heat to natural hair. You have to really know what you're doing. If you have a stylist you trust, then I would go that route.

Ah Pinkskates - i'm glad you replied. If you knew how much i've been stalking you're album you'd have me arrested lol....and i still can't do my hair!

Thanks for your advice. I'm literally tearing my hair out and even considering relaxing - which i really don't want to do.

Hi Bublin,

Although going to a salon is a great option, I think that you should still work to master the basics of caring for your own hair.

Maybe you could schedule a consultation where your stylist show you the propoer technques (step-by-step) to detangle your hair.

Also, have you tried washing while plaited?

Good luck, Curli

As long as your happy and have a stylist you can trust. I would try to keep practising some though so your not a slave to a stylist. That's not a good place to be, relaxed or natural. :yep:

Don't know where in London you are but there's a new natural hair salon in Brixton in Morleys that looks good.

Oh no...don't relax just yet. Give a stylist a chance to help you out. And it's okay that you can't do your hair. Honestly, sometimes I wish I had a stylist I trusted to do my hair, 'cause sometimes I don't want to be bothered with my hair. But I have not had any luck in that department. So if you have a stylist in mind then give him/her a chance...And like my grandma use to tell me, "if you want different results then you gotta do things differently." Good luck!

I'm seriously wondering if i'm the only person on this planet with my hair type - lol.

Its a thin 4a/3c bush with tiny spirals that break if a comb goes near it (my comb). Washing and going is not an option as it encourages tangles. I've tried washing in plaits but it was pointless as they just unraveled and i had to comb it alot to be able to plait it in the first place.

In an ideal world i would have my hair pressed every two weeks as when i had it done it felt and looked great. Can i do this and still keep my hair healthy?
