Naturals: Who cuts your hair?

I need a good trim. The last time I cut my hair, I did the big chop. I cut it myself- to shoulder length- but now my hair is too long to cut myself. Plus I flat ironed it in order to cut it easier.

Who cuts your hair? I am not interested in flat ironing my hair in order to get my hair cut. I don't like putting heat on it. So of those of you who don't cut your hair yourself, do any of you have a trusted cutter who knows what they are doing? And do you straighten your hair before getting it cut?

Thanks.

I cut my own hair. I can't remember the last time I let someone else cut it for me.

I don't straighten my hair to cut since I never wear it straight. I cut it to make sure it falls into one length with a nice shape. Oh, I make sure to use a good set of shears too. They are a must. I broke the bank a little bit with the last two pairs of shears I bought, but the guy who sold them to me gave me a great 2 for 1 deal.

ETA - Surprisingly, the last two times I straightened my hair a few of my friends were very shocked. They were amazed at how neat my ends were in spite of me not straightening my hair to trim it.

I let a close friend of mine that I've known since elementary school who is now a licensed cosmetologist cut my hair. She ALWAYS does a great job and is not scissor happy. I'm always telling her to cut more so if it wasn't for her, my hair would really be short.

Some people twist then dust/cut the ends. That last time I got my ends cut was when I streaightened my hair in November. Now I just S&D my ends.

I dust my ends every now and then usually 2 months+ at a time.
I get one big professional trim a year. My first time doing this was last year without a blowdryer with no regrets. Since I don't wear it straight, I couldn't tell if anything was off.

This time I'm waiting until the end of the year @ my big reveal for a trim...my goal is to achieve WL. If I'm not there, I'm not sure Ima be down for a trim :S

I had a major cut by a stylist about 7 years ago but since then I have trimmed, dusted and now thanks to Tracyee or Sylver I forget which, I now know how to do a basic blunt cut.

Me, myself and I.
I don't do styles though, just trims.
If I ws getting a style I would maybe let my sister or a stylist do it.

I once went to get a trim while in my 4a/b BAA state, and the stylist refused to trim my ends. He told me to straighten it first. I straightened it and went in the next day. He was like, " now thats more like it"

On another ocassion, iI went to the Hair cuttery that the women cut my hair in nice evened out fro.

So I figure some are trained in cutting hair in its natural state and some arent. I'm just glad that the person who was not trained did not want to experiment on me.

i found a stylist that specializes in curly hair, he's great. i never have to straighten my hair for him....and he always does a great job. he has curly hair himself so i'm sure that helps!

I would never let a stylist cut my hair while curly, it has to be straight so I can tell exactly how much they've cut. I have found two stylists in my area that are not scissor happy. They understand I am trying to grow my hair out, so they are very gentle with my strands. If you decide to go to a stylist try and ask around first, if all else fails ask the person at the front desk for a stylist that isn't scissor happy and then make a huge deal about how you're trying to grow your hair out and how much you hate stylists who chop off too much. That's what I do anyway...its worked for me so far

This is how I clip my ends. I double strand twist then clip the ends. When my whole head is twisted i know that all of my hair had been trimmed. It is the easiest way for me

So much fun to see how views change.
I soooooooo did not wait until the end of the year. I trimmed in June of 09 lol! I do plan on doing another trim at the end of the year and my WL goal with no mini trims in between....errr, I'm still hoping but I've accepted a full WL by June of 2010. What old thread can you dig up?

i trim my own hair. i usually do s&d, but when i straighten my hair, i usually give my ends a little trim as well. i don't think i'll be returning to a stylist for trims until well after i reach my full goal length. it'll then be someone i've researched & trust tp maintain it ... but i'll always keep the option of doing it myself when i need to.

I don't trust anyone to cut my hair. Going natural this second time is exactly why I, who was just considering going natural for a second time due to my inability to get to the salon regularly, made the decision to go natural. I went in for a trim and mentioned, JUST MENTIONED I was thinking about going natural again. So she just decided she was going to "TRIM" four inches OFF!!!! Never again. I am in charge of my own!

So now I just trim myself. I feel the ends and if they feel rough and I give it a dusting. For the back I have my daughter trim for me.

ME! from now on. my beloved stylist gave me the flotus hair cut a few months ago and I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! never again. i refuse to even put it in my fotki.

I don't straighten before I cut. Personally, I'm not willing to risk the heat damage. Also, I would not trust another person to cut my hair. My method for trimming is putting my hair in medium sized twists and snipping the ends.

eta: I don't cut my hair into any styles. The closest I've come to it is when I needed to cut about 2" off due to neglected ends. I deliberately decided to use that as an opportunity to cut most of the nape and sides and the least off the front and crown. My hair was more even instead of having those crazy layers. As it grows out now, it just falls better than prior to the trim.
