I keep seeing these little balls at the end of my hair, is it a split end? I always cut it when I feel it or see it, why am I getting these little balls or knots what ever it is, I never had that when I was relax, is this the natural split end? and how do you avoid it? and sometimes I get it in the middle of my hair strand not always at the end...

THIS? I TRIED TO BLOW IT UP SO U CAN SEE BUT IT JUST COMES OUT BLURRY. I'M NATURAL 2 AND I USUALLY SEE THESE ON THE VERY ENDS OF MY HAIR AS WELL AS SOME IN THE MIDDLE. THEY ARE NOT KNOTS BUT IT LOOKS MORE LIKE A VERY VERY SMALL BEAD OR BALL SAME COLOR AS MY HAIR.

They are called "fairy knots" as in they are so tiny that only a fairy could have made them. People of all hair types get them, regardless of hair thickness, texture, type, or chemical processes.

Fairy knots are generally caused by friction between the hair strands causing one hair to curl back upon itself and eventually knot itself tightly.

do you have to cut the knot out? or just let it be?

I don't see little balls on the ends of my hair. If I did i would not cut/or trim them. Just my preference.

Are you still transitioning?
I didn't get them when I was transitioning either.

I have noticed now that I am natural that I get them if I tend to cowash more than I usually do.

Yes I am. But I was natural for a while as well. I've seen those knots but I don't recall getting them. I still would not cut them out simply b/c it would seem counter productive for my hair.

I used to allllllwaysss get them and it seems like they would be on evry strand...my problem was not combing. I now comb everyday and my knots are very minimal

"Fairy knots", "pixie knots"... what darling names!

I didn't know that all races get them. I read they are typical of African hair so I thought they could be found only in people of African heritage whether relaxed or natural. But I imagine they might happen more often in natural hair because it curls back on itself and thus can knot easily.

I couldn't remember seeing them before but lately I've seen a few and believe I'd get them more if I wore my hair out more. Keeping my hair braided seems to keep them at a minimum, otherwise I don't think there's anyway to avoid them.

Yeah, everyone gets them - I leave mine alone. *shrug* sometimes I play with them, counting how many are on a strand. I think my max has been four.
