Naturals...What am I doing wrong??

I went out last night with fleshly co-washed hair. I came home and twisted my hair and pinned them. But when I undid the twists there weren't any curls just frizz for days. I had to rewet it, add gel and finger style it. That defeated the whole point of twisting it!! Any advice on getting beautiful results from twists??

Did you lightly dampen it or use a gel, cream to re-twist? If you dry twist a twist-out without more moisture (not a lot), it will lose its form. Well that's how it is for my hair...

I agree. When I twist my hair at night, I moisturize and seal before I twist. I make about 15 twists and in the morning, I let the steam from the shower moisten them even more. Then I untwist! HTH.

Yes, I do this too. Otherwise it becomes a frizzy, flattened, bush thingy.

I love RusticBeauty's twist technique. I've used it and it works beautifully and my hair is maybe 1/4 her length.

Ummmm - the first two posters. I don't think OP is complaining about the results of her *re-twist*. She's complaining that her original twist out had no form/ definition, so she had to essentially finger coil.

OP, you possibly didn't leave the twists in long enough. When I was natural, after wearing twists for a couple of weeks, the resulting twist-out could last up to four days to a week - if I let it.

If you don't want to wait that long, I would recommend leaving the twists in at least over night. And allowing it to dry properly. If you don't have time to airdry, some people actually sit under the dryer with the twists in. You may also need to do the twists smaller and tighter.

Some people also use some kind of holding / smoothing product like locing cream, etc while twisting to make the twist-out more defined. But like I said, I never needed to do much of that, because as much trouble as it took to twist my hair, you better believe I was going to wear the twists for a couple of weeks before wearing any type of twist-out: 2 styles in one!

you're right, i wear my twists for a week before trying to do a twist-out otherwise coils won't be as defined and long-lasting.
