by keeping hair constantly stretched, how do u do this?
Im sorry, i know it probably has been discussed by the search button is failing me.TIA

I would like to know this as well. Some ladies say they don't get tangles. How do you manage this?

Recently I found that rollersetting after a wash is a good way to stretch out hair. I like it better than banding so far. I just butter the ends and roll it up.

Keeping my hair braided and washing it in the braids, only undoing it when dry to redo tidily, ensures that it stays stretched and doesn't tangle. I found this worked with twists too, and I can go for months without using a comb in my hair; just fingers. I suspect ACV rinse as final step does help smooth my strands too, making them less likely to tangle. Also I don't know if everyone does this but when I braid my hair, I'm constantly smoothing the strands with my fingers just before the cross-over, if that makes sense. So when I undo a braid to redo it, it looks like this:

So it's not at all hard to separate with fingers and rebraid. Because the braid keeps it stretched, the strands don't on themselves or around others.

I now only comb hair when it's loaded with conditioner. I tried combing under running water - still was tangling when I was done but after the conditioner - I have great slip:grin: Then I dry in low ponytails with bands every 3 inches. Airdrys nice and wavy :yep:HTHs -

first i dentangle under the shower with lots of conditioner, then when i come out the shower, i put my hair in a ponytail then i twist the hair hanging out the pony and i pin it up. after this i put on my scarf and allow my hair to air dry. once my hair is all dry its stretched out pretty nice while perserving my curl.

Before a wash- I separate my hair into 6 sections and hold each of the sections separate with a banana clip. I only comb through soaking wet hair when its loaded with conditioner. And i only comb from the ends up. Also I use a hand held shower (like water pik but with a filter) and that helps me deal with each section individually.

I just don't comb. :look: I do wear my hair shrunken most of the time though. I rarely get tangles. I just hope it doesn't get worse as my hair gets longer. This year, so far so good.

i use the crown and glory method to deal with my hair. i braid it up b4 washing and use my fingers to separate any strands, oil rinsing is great here too. also detangle while in the shower with heavy conditioner. (sometimes i add oil to my conditioner). once i'm out of the shower i braid it up. and try not to use the comb. but if i do comb it is from the ends up.

I detangle with conditioner and water in the shower then twist it up in the show into 2-4 big twists. This keeps the hair detangled and ready to be styled.

Either my hair is soaking wet with some sort of treatment/ conditioner/ moisturizer, or it's in flat twists. I almost NEVER wear my hair out - and when I do, I accept that it's gonna be tanggggled. I'm still working on finding the perfect leave-in that is clear, dry, and yet makes my hair not tangle like my conditioner does. If I could find that (oh, Afro Detangler, how I want you) I think I would be set, tangle wise.

What works for me:

*Washing/Detangling my hair in braided sections
*Air Drying my hair in large braids, large twists, banded ponytails etc…
*Finger Combing (only when I’m not wearing my hair “out”)
*Braiding/Twisting up my hair at night (only when I’m not wearing my hair “out”)

I found out the hard way that in order to avoid tangles I can't let my hair shrink completely. I wear twists most of the time and I wash with them still in and detangle/redo each one.

If I'm going to wear my hair loose, I wash in 10 sections and plait each section up after I'm done shampooing and conditioning and let my hair air dry in the braids.

I don't get that many tangles because I only wear my hair straightened out. I've been doing rollersets after washing for a while now, but I find that after a day or two, the ends start to revert and it gets a bit tangled again. I recently bought a flat iron so I'll be using that for now to see how long I can avoid tangles between washes when I'm use it.

I have found that blowdrying my hair in sections after washing and conditioning has helped reduce tangles for my hair! When I airdry, I get tangles and matting. If I'm going to wear my hair in it's shrunken natural state without blowdrying, I will put it into two coily puffs on each side of my head and call it a day.
