what are they? I saw someone's picture they look like twist then taken apart. The photo was alittle fuzzy. Anyway, Someone told me my hair would look nice in a straw set. I was wondering if I can achieve a "rachel true" look which is a 3c with a 4b/4a using a straw set or twist out natural?

A twist-out is achieved by having twists in your hair and then unravelling the twists.

To me, I think you could achieve a look like Rachel True with either a twist-out or straw-set. You'll probably have more spirals and a more uniform look with a strawset and a more multi-textured look with a twistout.

HTH!

PB basically said it all, but I'd also like to add that if you're going for a Rachel True look, a strawset, would be the much better choice. Whenever I do strawsets I separate the curls at least two times, more if I've had it in for a while, to make the curls look fuller. Here's a pic of one of my strawsets:

If I were to have gone through it and separated the curls some more I could've had that Rachel True look but that wasn't what I was going for. I hope this helps and please post pics of whatever you decide to do!

Also, if it helps, I'm wearing a twistout in my avatar which I'm about to change. :)

You can also do a twistout with flat twists but the result form flat twists is way bigger waves. Straw curls are very uniform and sleek and pretty. Twist outs can give off a curly/messy look. Both of them have very pretty results though :)

well my avatar is a twist out pulled up into a puff. All it is are the twists removed. I then wet my hair, put conditioner in it, and pulled it up. this is the result. I don't know about trying to "recreate" a certain look. Sometimes I want curls, most times I like the fuzz, and napps, but that's just me :)

Good responses ladies. I would say either or. When you get your strawset your sprial curls will be very uniform. As it gets older your hair will get fuzzier and the curls will start to drop. Twistouts will result in a wavier not curlier hair, but I think that it will give you the look that you are looking for.

Just a note:
When you do your twist out, do it with your hair wet and make the twist small to medium size.

Twist outs turn out differently depending on the natural texture of your hair. My friends twist outs come out very spirally, with tight coils which I LOVE, mine however, come out in just waves :-(

A straw set, seperating the curls should give you the look you are looking for if the twist out does not.

what about flat twists or a twist out on relaxed hair? how do they look?
i can't braid so i'm scared to do a braid out.
and my bantu knots look funky b/c i can never seperate them well.
you always end up seeing where i made my parts :ohwell:
