In hair purgatory
For all you naturals who are strapped of time what are the best styles that help you retain length, is low budget, looks stylish, quick low manipulation and dont require the hair to be getting wet every day?

A hump and a bun.

Wet your hair so that it's pliable. Gel your edges so it can be smooth. Make a bang, pull it back into a hump, secure with pins. Then pull the end into a high bun. Smooth down the edges. Slide a hair stick into the bun.

Or a low chignon with a pretty headband.

So how do you make the hump? Or, how to get the hump to get and stay "humped" (for lack of a better term)?

twists. i just have to do them once a week and the rest of the week i don't have to do anything. esp if you find your hair does not tangle in twists when wet, you can go even longer with them.

after a week of twists my hair becomes tangled in the twists. because of the texturized ends. plus my hair always gets so fuzzy that it looks like they were done 2 years ago after only a few hours:sad:

I dont think i can pull off the hump. im very fashion challenges and it would clash. im thinking of sticking to my tried and true bun but i want to explore non gel options too so i can start using megatek:drunk:

i really like braid-outs or twist-outs . about 8or 9 twists or braids at night .. unravel in the morn
shake and go

I do twists into an updo. I really don't care if they look fuzzy, because then it starts looking less like twists, and more like loose hair.

Have you tried french braids/flat twists, like in my avi? That was a weeklong style for me - trying a doorag over it and/or using some Burnt Sugar made it look freshly done every day, and it only takes about 10 minutes to do....

Ooooh I really like this post!

I fit all of the criteria in your original post. I literally have no time for my hair anymore. And I don't have room in my budget anymore for 100 a month to get it braided. So far I have been dabbling in twists and I intend on styling hair after twistouts or braidouts. I'm thinking buns, etc.

Try fingercoils....mine have lasted 6 days so far.
how do you keep them in? my roots are always puffy no matter what i do and they fall out. my siggy is actually my attempt at finger coils. i couldnt keep the style because the roots unraveled and froed up

Twists, I can get atleast 2 weeks out of them. THen I wear a twist out for a week. So that's 3 weeks w/no real styling.

I put them in with Fantasia IC Olive Styling Gel. I don't worry about the roots puffing up because it didn't take away from the style. The only difference in my hair is that you can't see my parts (which for me is a good thing because I really don't like that "scalpy" look) My plan is to wash, DC and re-coil once a week. :yep:

:notworthy Love it LadyK!

My quick on the go styles have been: extension braids; baggying with head wraps; twists/twist-outs; and phony puffs.

what products are your using and what type of twists do you wear? have you thought about cutting the ends off? i twist my hair with gels that are used to twist like QB honeybush tea gel or jamacian mango and lime gel. i wash, condition, and moisturize my hair first, and i twist while the hair is still wet. i don't sit under a dry to seal, but some people do that and certain products recommend it to prevent frizzies.

If I wear a puff I do it with a deep part on the side, tie it down at night with a scarf, and then in the morning just put my ponytail holder in and go. Takes less than 5 minutes. I don't spray my hair wet or anything. Letting the scarf flatten it out keeps me from having to use gel or stressing my edges.

My styles are braids with extensions canerows with extensions and kinky twists take a while to put in and las about 4-8weeks with touch ups and are fuss free.

man i was on board till the last qualification...i wet my hair like nobodys business :lachen:

i learned to kinky twist, and from there i can do any kind of box braids...bantu knots...but now i am getting good at making a WNG last for 3-4 days without rewetting it.
