NATURALS, how should I sleep with my hair at NIGHT?

I just took my hair out of kinky twists last week from having them in for a while and my hair has grown noticeably. I have shrinkage with 4a hair; stretched, it's approximately 6.5 inches. I know that this is a HUUUUGE no-no, but I have been sleeping on my hair with no scarf because concerned about my hair becoming smushed and matted. With the twists, I didn't have to do much with my hair. Now that they're out I have to actally do some maintenance and I'm clueless.

Questions:

1. How often should I be washing/conditioning 4a hair?

2. Before bed, how should I tie it up? And, will this be a tedious process?

Hey foxxy!

I'm a 3c/4a. I usually wear my hair down n out...wild n curly. lol. However, at nite, i put my hair in a high ponytail (like at the top of my head). Now, I know I should still tie a scarf around my head...but i sure don't. lol. I'mma do it tho...soon.

I hope this helps!

Hi Foxxy ,

I'm 4A/4B. When I take my twists out I saturate my entire hair with Carol's Daughter Leave-in conditioner, shea butter, and seal with honey and olive oil. I baggy my whole head. This prevents matting, at least for me. Other times I plait my hair into random braids and apply the aforementioned concoction and wrap it in a scarf. I hope this helps!

I always put something on my head at night. My hair is 4 and rubbing up against things tend to give me breakage.

I have silk caps that I use at night. I rarely sleep with my hair loose unless it is after a twist out and I want to keep that style for a few days or more.

Even then I sleep with the silk cap. These are loose enough and have enough room to keep my twist out style.

it depends on what style you want! If you are going to wear you hear in a TWA, the I highly suggest baggying your whole head..you will wake up with a well moisturized fro! You can also do a daily braid out which can take time but get eaiser with practice. I also baggy the whole head when I do that but I have to take the baggy off about 20 mins before I unravel the braids because the hair can be damp which willjust create frizz and not definition.
hth

I always tie my hair up in a satin scarf - in the morning I usually have to spritz to get it moisturized. I am now baggying so I put a plastic cap on my hair and then tie the satin scarf over it - with this method in the morning I don't really need to spritz or do anything because my hair is pretty damp and moisturized from baggying. HTH.

I wear a bonnet or scarf and that works fine for me. I don't wear my hair out often but I usually wash once a week. If it's out, I might wash every 2-3 days.

Do you all wear your hair in wash and gos?

Yes I do. Depending on what I do, events and how my hair looks this is my co wash schedule..

I normally co wash every other day
If I work out every day...I co wash daily
If my hair is extremely dry I will co wash daily

I twist my hair into two-eight twists and usually band the twists. If I've moisturized my hair before bed, I wear a silk bonnet/scarf. Otherwise, I use my satin pillowcase alone.

Because of my easily tangled hair, I've found that I have fewer tangles and easier detangling sessions if I braid/twist my hair at night before bed.

I haven't worn a wash and go in months, although it was my go-to style for a while. I usually wear my stretched out hair in a puff or ponytail. I'll be interested to see what a shake and go looks like on 10" of yet uneven hair.

I am doing the baggie method now so my hair is very curly in the am and I just add more leave in or moisture and go. I decide the night before what I am doing with my hair and that determines what i am going to do in the am. I usually cowash everyday - so the band around the head is a daily thing. Wash and go is a daily thing for me. I always always sleep with a satin or silk bonnet. But I agree twisting your hair at night and then bagging and letting it dry that way in the am makes a nice texture to your style. I am just to tired to be bother with doing that. the longer my hair gets the less interested I get in twisting it at all. But if it gets armpit length it might be easier I do not know.
