I know I should be more patient. Really, I do. But it's so hard! I BC-ed almost 1 month ago, and I don't see any difference in my hair. It's so frustrating! I'm sick of looking like a boy. :perplexed

I BCed on jan.17 and Im just now noticing growth. After I BCed I kept playing in my hair, checking everyday for growth. When I stopped checking, I realized, it's growing(finally)

I'm sharing your concerns....I think putting the pics side by side (monthly comparison) helps to see the growth (although it may seems like little). I have my days of this and that's why I've been thinking of putting braids back in..but then I love playing and learning my hair so...yea, I go back and forth on a weekly basis.
two things after looking at your updated fotki:
1. you do not look like a boy- you are much too cute for that... ;)
2. your hair is beautiful! I love those curls.
you and I are about the same length so we can support each other!

I noticed growth when I wasn't looking for it. A watched pot never boils. I simply enjoyed my hair and tried as many styles as I could think of while I had it at that length. When I got bored of styling it daily, I braided it and forgot about it, and the length crept up on me.

This hair growing thing isn't supposed to be a competition to see how quickly you can get to a certain goal. It's supposed to be a fun adventure where you discover all the things your hair is capable of, what it likes and doesn't like, and how to keep it as healthy as possible while having fun with it. I'm sure if you ask the majority of people with butt length hair how often they checked progress or growth, you'll hear "seldom".

I noticed growth about 3months in. I usually had it in braids or interlocks so the growth kind of crept up on me :)

I agree with Nonie, try and check every 6 months and if you can't wait maybe every 3 months. 1x/month may leave you feeling sad. In the beginning I checked 2x/year. Now because of my ayurvedic regimen I have been doing it every 4-6weeks but it's too much for me so I'm going back to every 3-6 months.

After I BCd in October I just did wash-n-gos and tried real hard not to think about length...just kept trying new makeup and earrings, lol. Now, it's february and, on a whim because I wanted to see, I decided to coil my hair. It was the first time I had combed/styled my hair since the chop and I and everyone else I know was shocked at how much hair I had! The look of my Wash-n-gos had not changed dramatically in the four months (just looked like more hair, not any longer), but my coils were two inches long! I was excited to see that I was right on track for hair growth/retention.

So, give it some time, I decided that I can't tell how much growth I have until I style it in a way that truly stretches the hair out.

Stay strong girl! It will happen!

I use to take growth shots every two months and in each picture I noticed a little more growth. Looking for growth everyday isn't the way to go about it. I'd suggest that you resist the urge to check for length everyday to once a month. Enjoy your length now and experiment with styles and accessories.

First, your hair is too cute!

I really noticed significant growth about 3 months in, but really my hair shrinks so much it's hard to tell when I do a wash n go. I do measure my hair everynow and then just to make sure it's growing, but I've falled off that lately.

Stretched comparison pictures really help you see that it's growing if you're getting paranoid, but I agree the best thing to do is just take care of your hair and not worry about it. It will come :)

I noticed the next month. My regular hairstyle (wash and go) looks exactly the same to me just more defined. Sometimes I'm convinced it's not growing and then I stretch it and it's longer. I try not to check often though. and looking at my bc pictures my hair has clearly grown. I'm just delusional thinking it looks the same.

I saw noticeable growth after 4 months. In the shrunken state the hair hanged differently. When I stretched it I went from the bottom of my nose to the bottom of my lips. One month is not going to show you an incredible difference so give it time.

To be honest, I noticed growth in the next couple weeks. I remember measuring it after I cut it and it was at 2 inches, then a little while later I measured it by putting it up to a Q-Tip and it was just as long as a Q-Tip which is I think 3 and then the next while later it was a bit longer than the Q-Tip. Then I started to get so slack with my hair and stopped using my growth oil and I stayed at like 6 inches for a while. Not to mention I had to trim it alot because I was just doing wng and getting alot of knots at the ends making it rough.

I know it's so cliche to say this and its the last thing you want to hear, but you just need to wait. Eventually I got to a place now where I hardly think about my hair and length. When it grows it grows kind of thing.

I feel your pain. I bc'd in May of 07. By Dec. of 07 I could wear get my hair straigtened and wear the old Halle Berry ( 90's) hair cut style.

By July 2008 I was ear length on the sides and nape length in the back

Feb 2009 I am 3 inches to APL in the back and under the chin to collar bone length in the front.

I wish my cell phone network was working to prove to you. As soon as it starts working, I am going to post pics.

In the meanwhile, be patient. Time goes by super fast. You may want to have your hair braided or get twists for a while.

HTH,
Dlove

a month and few weeks because at bc I couldnt get extensions and when the lady that tried to braid my hair after a month or so was able to I knew it grew. Especially when you chop and you see a lot of scalp and afterwards you barely see the scalp.

I cut down to a baldie so I saw growth right away.

Once I got to the 4 month mark it was a little harder to see. Now that I'm at month 16 or 17 you still can't tell because I have soooo much shrinkage.

It hardly ever took me long to notice growth after a BC. It's easiest to notice then, IMO. :yep: I went from bald in June of '07 to wearing twists in December of '07.

ITA...thus the siggy quote :yep:. Just leave it alone and it'll come home. You'll see.

I was busy having too much fun in the first couple of months to notice growth. I had fun sporting my frohawk and wearing different headbands and barrettes. I'd say at about 4 months I noticed growth b/c I could pull my hair into a puny little bun or two tiny ponytails. Between 6 and 8 months (I'm approaching 8 mos now) I was able to put in a small puff or and fuller WnGs. Last month, I began doing really nice twistouts and when stretched, my hair touches my collarbone (my longest layer).

So for me, it was around 4 months when I noticed a difference.

hth.
