Naturals - have you tried Kinky Curly or Curl Keeper?

I stumbled across the Kinky Curly line in Whole Foods when I was picking up Jane Carter Nourish & Shine. And someone else told me about Curl Keeper.

Has anyone used either of these products or the whole line? Did you like it? Did it really moisturize your hair and leave you with defined curls?

I'm interested in trying it but wanted to see if anyone has tried either product first.

I love KCCC and hope to never be without a jar. For those who did not like it, did you use a moisturizing leave in underneath?

Curl Keeper works really really well on my hair. The downside is that it's made in Canada and there aren't many distributors of it in the US. I had to buy it from Curlmart :(

I haven't tried curl keeper, but I LOVE kinky curly curling custard! It's a staple of mine. The only way kinky curly would work for me is if I used a little bit of 100% shea butter underneath it while my hair was damp. It left my hair soft, but had a good hold to it too. I haven't tried it with the knot today, even though I own it. :ohwell: Which reminds me, I should try it together one day...lol. I bought the knot today a while after the curling custard...but the shea butter with curling custard works wonders for me. :yep:

If you don't have hair in the 3s expect a lot of comedy using that crap.

I tried kinky curly. It did what it was supposed to do, but i'm a cheap skate. I can't justify to myself buying this product where there are cheaper products that i can use that do the same thing.

me too.:yep:
you don't have much of a choice when you're a broke college student with no income.
two main reasons i will never buy an expensive product:
1) what if I hate it? then my money is wasted. :nono:
2) what if I like it? and then I want to make it a staple?? then my wallet will be forever crying out for mercy.:perplexed

I love Kinky Curly. It has become my stable through all of the bottles and jars under my sink. I use it with Knot Today and then I just grab sections of my hair and apply the Curling Custard. I avoid using too much because then it gets hard. But I love it...

I've used Curl Keeper. I really wanted to love this but I can't say that it does much for my 4a hair. It was recommended as a humidity block but they also say that you need to use gel on top. I thought maybe the CK would keep the gel from being too drying but....

I've also got KCCC and KCKT but I haven't tried them yet. I'm not wearing W&G until it gets a bit warmer!

Bianca, do you have anything you'd trade for CK? I hate waste so I'd be happy for it to go to a good home! PM me.

I've thought about buying it but it's a little too spendy for my taste. Some of JC's stuff is expensive too. I'd rather save my money. I've been wondering how to make my own using Aloe Vera gel as a base.

I havent tried Curl Keeper but I love KCC! It have my hair moisturized and the curls are always popping! Since it is expensive I only use it when I am going out somewhere special any other time I use my Fantasia IC!

Love KCCC...it comes second to my Ouidad humidity gel. Curls are always soft and moisturized. I also have longer WNG with KCCC.

That's exactly how I use mine... with some shea butter underneath or some vatika coconut oil... Then apply KCCC. I used it alone and my hair was a little hard, but the stiffness didn't last long.

I tried KCCC last year, didn't like it, returned it, re-purchased it and the Knot Today recently, still didn't like it for a wash & go. I used it for a braidout and liked it... however, after a couple of hours of taking my braids down, my hair looked "ashy". I had read reviews that it doesn't like to be mixed with oil and I'm not tweaking any hair product over $5! Therefore, I put both bottles back in the bag with the intention of returning them. (Whole Foods told me to return it if I tried it and didn't like it.) My DH told me that he had used the Knot Today and really liked it. I decided to try both products on all 3 of my son's hair and they ALL have had GREAT hair days for the past 3 days!!!

uh. wow @ ^^^ :nono: :nono: sooooo not true. :nono:

WRT dry/hard hair. KCCC should be used with a leave in. you do not have to use Knot Today any leave in (usually creamy) will do and you have to be light handed. less is more with KCCC.

personally i love it and one $25 jar lasts me at least a year or more. i use it for wet ponies, wash and gos, twists/twist-outs.

if i want my ponies to stay i use a good amount (about a half dollar size for my whole head. if i'm doing a wash and go i use no more than a quarter size and that is pushing it. usually a nice, thin film on your hands is just enough. you can't apply it like miss jessie's as if you were shingling.

i am a 4 natural and this has been one of the best products i've ever bought and is a staple. i HATE paying $25 for it and that is the only thing that is making me not want to buy another jar. i've used almost every gel out there and nothing is like this. In fact, i went from ic w/ sparkle lites to KCCC & have never looked back.

if you have a whole foods in your area i think they will open one and let you have a sample. just ask.

also go to youtube and watch the KCCC reviews and tutorials that is how i learned the best way to use it. there are also a ton of threads here on it.

wash and go (sorry not the best view)

I love KCCC! I learned the best way to use it. I don't need to use a lot of it like I use with other gel. I am going to use what I have sparingly because I have to get my cc payments down. I'll be testing out eco styler olive oil gel when I BC.:ohwell:

KCCC does nothing for my hair unfortunately. I need heavier products on my hair for it to respond, so I have to go with the Curl Keeper.

I love KCCC with knot today- at first I hated it and was trying alternative ways to use it (i.e. braid outs/twistouts) but after a couple tries with wash n goes, I got better at applying it in sections and my hair is defined and stays that way for days with the wash n goes. I always use a lot of knot today underneath and I also use a hood dryer to speed up drying time.

My hair will sometimes get a tad crunchy-but I just scrunch in a little cream on day two and my hair stays moisturized. Also devacurl set it free is good for refreshing my hair. The KCCC lasts a long time too. I saw definition and curls I never thought i had when using that product line (KCCC and knot today).

I looooooove kinky curly! It's one of the best stylers I've used. I also have some curl keeper but I may try it when the weather is warmer and figure out how to use it.

This thread is super old but...I guess I'm in the minority when I say I love curl keeper:look: I've been using it for 2 weeks and it's everything I want. I like fluffy hair with a little hold. It defines my curls enough for me and keeps my hair soft and bouncy.

Kinky Curly Knot Today leave in detangler is a staple for me! I'm a straight haired natural and wear my flat ironed most of the time. This is the best conditioner for me as it doesn't cause reversion (no water) yet is very moisturizing.
