I wear wigs when I'm bored with my hair and as a protective style. I've tried box braids and kinky twists as protective styles but for some reason I always come back to wigs. They don't damage my hair, don't cost much, look great and I don't have to sit in a shop for 7 hours getting it done. Not to mention, I can still see, touch and take care of my hair.

I don't wear anything extra any more. Years of extensions took their toll on my hair. So I started rocking my natural hair which in it's curly state is protective enough. I get a length shrinkage of around 65% so my curls are far above my collar. Once I learned which products worked, it's been pretty easy to style.

This is an interesting point. Ages ago, I asked Janet (can't make the accent) about her wearing her hair curly as a protective style.

I said, wouldn't your curly hair hitting your shoulders be just as damaging? I think she responding something like, "I never thought of that."

Now I'm thinking no... because your ends are curled up and not exactly rubbing on your shoulders.

I don't know though. Still a curiosity to me.

I didn't vote, but I would say I use braid extensions 75% of the time. I can do some of the styles I like with my own hair, but I'm at an awkward length right now so they don't look right. I hope to get a few wigs at the end of the summer so I can PS through the winter 100%. Hopefully by next summer I will have enough hair to make a semi decent bun with my own hair and that will be my PS.

I wear lacewigs even though I am natural. In the past when I wore my natural hair out it would be a lot of combing and styling involved on a daily basis, but since I started wearing wigs I have seen my hair grow to lengths that I thought I could never get to. I contribute a lot of that to low manipulation styles underneath the lacefront wigs. I wear my natural hair on the weekends and I let my hair breathe every night and massage my scalp often when I remove my wigs.

i voted 30-40%. i tend to wear half wigs if i feel like my hair is misbehaving. i also wear sew-ins every now and then to give my hair a break.
