Re: Naturals, do you take health advice

:look:

Sure do - I've never had a black female doctor with natural hair......

*wonders what Bubblin is up to*

Bubblin's not up to anything, just asking a question.

Lemme go update my question. I left out something very pertinent.

Ahhh, the natural/alternative bit?

Hrrm. *thinks*

I can't say I ever have. I also can't say that I wouldn't - truth and knowledge can come from some of the most puzzling sources.

Your turn! The spotlight's on you now :yep:

Why would the source be considered 'puzzling?'

Depends on what you mean. I don't use natural products exclusively for my hair, but I am a huge naturopathy believer when it comes to healing of any ailments in and on the body. So I do take that sort of advice, but I also do a lot of research on my own. Otherwise, I tend to just file a lot of info I hear and read away till needed.

See. I did say that, eh?

*thinks*

I can't - personally - understand how someone could be interested and educated about alternative health (which, to me, includes how amazingly interconnected all of our body is, and how everything we ingest/apply affects health) - and yet still be willing to put a caustic chemical on their hair every x months - the risk/benefit analysis seems - non-existent.

It's a logical absurdity in my mind - I'm sure, that those who do balance both have reached some sort of agreement in their mind that allows it to make sense - in the same way that I continue to do some less than healthy things on a regular basis (I'm a winelover for LIFE), and 'excuse' them away in my overall life.

I don't know. I 'optimistically' expect those who know better, to do better, but - that's not all that realistic, now, is it?

Wow! Thanks for the reply. After I thought about it,I was going to delete the question to you so that you wouldn't be put on the spot and just ask for you to elaborate via a PM, but girl you handled it well. Thanks again.

:) Heh, thank you. ;)

ETA: And oddly enough, thinking about it more, someone who colored their hair wouldn't puzzle me as much. Interesting question.... :yep:

So, missy, time to answer your own question, eh?!! :lachen:

Out of the black folks I am friends with/talk to on the regular, I happen to be one of the more knowledgeable in the area of alternative/natural health advice. While I would take advice/have a convo about natural/alternative health with someone who is relaxed (and all variations thereof), it happens to be that most of the black women I meet who are into alternative/natural health also happen to be natural.

And on the other side of the spectrum--a lot of white women I meet are into alternative/natural health stuff.
