Naturals, do you have an afro pik/comb?

I'm transitioning at the moment and thinking of getting one, because i think that the pik part is small enough to get through tangles and they are seamless which will cause less breakage.
I have a wide tooth comb but sometimes i think it's too wide. So do you think it's a good idea to get one?

No picks but I do have a K-cutter. Love it and use it for the same reason - it makes detangling alot easier.

Yep. Looks like a sideways pick but you get more control.

As I detangle my hair, 25-50% of the time I find myself reaching for my rat tail comb to help pick out a stubborn snarl/tangle somewhere on my head.

Some gals pick up some other pointy non-cutting object. These pointy things have the ability to get inside of a tangle/snarl and loosen/open it up like no other hair tool seems to be able to do. Many times you can break down that tangle without having to cut it out.

I'd never use any hair tool to rip through my hair. Misusing anything tool will cause lots of problems.

A lot of ladies like the kcutter. I can't pick my hair out, it hurts too much, but I have combed it with a pick-like part on the end of my comb.

I have one. Not metal. I was considering metal though. I don't use it often. But mostly for detangling. I am looking at that K cutter now though.

Really is a good tool to have as a natural. I think wide tooth combs are too wide too and plus they hurt my head.

ok, I won't tell you your local BSS will have them and you can probably pick one up after work. I won't even tell you it's probably one of the cheapest haircare products you can pick up. And finally, you can probably get one with the change you find in your living room sofa

I don't, I only detangle when I'm in the shower with a shower comb.. I rarely comb my hair dry(it gets too big) if I do I stick to a wide tooth comb, a pick would get lost in all that hair.

If I'm wearing an afro, I don't pick it out because it's just too much manipulation for me. I band my hair or blow out on cold if I want to do an afro look.

Whether it's a good purchase for you or not will depend on what your hair can handle, imo.

I have an afro pick with the fist at the end. lol I used it when I first BC because an inch of hair wasn't enough to get worried about. Now, however, I can't use it because doing so would invite disaster since it's longer than an inch. It's great decoration in my drawer, though...

I use it whenever my hair is out. I like to use it on dry hair bc it knocks tangles out easier than a reg. comb and it glides easier through my hair.

If i detangle in the shower i usually use a regular comb...either wide toothed or small toothed depends how i feel.

I have a seamless plastic pick that I use occasionally to detangle in the shower and to fluff my roots after I release my twists for a twist out. I haven't had a need for it lately though I just use my fingers.

I bought a pik when I first went natural coz I thought I would 'need' one, but I actually don't, it's been collecting dust ever since. Whenever I wear puffs I use my fingers only to fluff my hair out and when I detangle/comb my hair I use a wide tooth comb which is good enough for me.

I have one with metal teeth. It has a fist on the end and a peace sign in the center. Might seem contradictory, but you know, "no justice, no peace" It was my primary comb for more than a decade. I hardly use it now as I use a bone comb. But I still think it's good. It's worth buying, they are usually only a dollar or two. And definitely get the metal teeth. They are smoother. I hate the kind with plastic teeth.

I have always had one. My last one sorta died a painful death so now I'm using seamless resin combs. However, the next time I wear an afro you can bet I will be using a metal one with the Power to the People fist handle:

I work better with that sort of comb. The K Cutter is just awkward to me. The handle is all in the wrong place and stuff. It's supposed to be parallel to the teef like my pick.

I've tried a pick once since I've gone natural. By the time I got to the ends they would just curl back around the teeth. Then when I finally managed to fight through and get the pck out it would just be like I never did any detangling steps at all.

I wouldn't pik my hair dry unless it has already been previously stretched out from a blow out or braids. And with moisturrizer in it. I want that pik with the fist on the end. I seen one the other day in Dollar General? Or my BSS. I was planning on getting it in thte future.

I think I have seen the Kcutter at the BSS store then. I don't think they have meatl teeth though. i want the metal teeth. I think I might go look today or tomorrow.

the one i have has longer teeth than the metal one shown above.(see pic)
i cant do the shorter ones because they cant dig into the length of my puff and fluff it out without messing it up..i only use a pick when my hair is moisturized..i use a wide tooth to detangle

So i bought a k-cutter a few months ago at the begining of my transition and i think it's great. It's defining curls i thought i never had, and because it's seamless there is less breakage. I like the fact you can take out the metal pics if it's to narrow for your hair. I think it's the perfect essential item for transitioning and natural hair.
