Naturals: Do you go by Big Chop or Last Relaxer/Chemical Treatment...

I always go by my last relaxer date even when people ask my how long I've been natural. I think it would confuse ppl if I gave them my BC date since I transitioned for 18 months. I used to give full details but then I realized not everyone is a hair nerd like me, so I keep if short and sweet in person.

Because I cut off more hair in my BC than I grew out during my transition.
I do understand the argument for the last relaxer date. But for short term "transitioners" ( those under 9 months) I think BC day should suffice.

I get what you are saying about hair nerds. The average would not understand. LOL!!!

I just get disappointed when I see "I big chopped" and the person is BSL.

But to each her own, right? LOL!

I do both, but in my siggy it has my BC date as the ticker

I go by my last relaxer date. I BC on the 2nd so that makes me 17 months without a relaxer and 1 month 100% natural.

Even in a long transition you still take care of your natural hair so I personally wouldn't consder someone with relaxed ends not natural. What do we say for naturals with major heat damage. Some have straight ends and curly roots

The date the barber BCed me.

My attempted transition lasted 4 months. I BCed with scissors & was constantly cutting little pieces of stray relaxed hair.s. 3 weeks later went to a barber that cut my hair to almost nothing.

My healthy hair journey started a good 8 years after I stopped relaxing and I never did a BC so neither for me.

I was always told if you stop getting relaxers your hair will break off.

I am guessing this is not true since so many transition with out cuttin immediately.
