as the starting point of your Hair Journey? I always use my last relaxer/chemical treatment as my start date of when my natural hair was reborn. I've seen people go by their BC as a start date, which is cool, but I want to know the beginning. I want to know the birth date of that natural hair sprouting under the chemically treated hair. I want to know the exact date, time, what you were wearing, and what you were doing and where you took the oath of no more creamy/liquid crack... :look: . Okay, not exactly like that, but you know what I mean.

So what do you go by?

Both. I think going by the BC date can be a lil deceiving if you stopped getting a relaxer two years prior. But you on here, MBL, talking abt you're one year natural.

I go by the day I BCed as the start of my natural hair journey. When making posts on my progress I just tell the day I BCed and when my last relaxer was.

I go by the date I BC'ed, partially because I had no idea I was going to go natural when I got my last relaxer, so I have no idea when my last relaxer was.

However, if I ever do update threads, I post my BC PICTURE WITH DATE alongside the present picture, with date. Plus my BC is my avi, and I don't plan to change it.

well it depends. If im talking about how long ive been natural, ill go from BC date. If its a hair growth context ill go by my last relaxer. That crap used to confuse me when i was thinking about going natural, ill see a woman with MBL hair talikng about shes been natural for 6 months, Im like "WOAH!" then i realize she's been transitioning for years lol

I go by both. The day I BC'd I also had a relaxer put in, so im technically transitioning. Its only been 2 years :)

I always go by my last relaxer date for length checks and have that as my ticker.

(I transitioned for 20 months though and bc'd in February 2011.)

I go by date of last relaxer. makes more sense in terms of growth. I find that people always get confused by a member who says that shes been natural for one year but has BSL hair  nothing wrong wth that but it would help if mentioned that you transitioned for 24 months before you did the BC :yep:

I never big chopped, since my hair was short to begin with ( I got it cut into a short bob, but that was only about 3 inches of hair off), and I just cut off a little every month of relaxed hair. I go by my last relaxer date.

I got by my last relaxer. I think the important thing is that people be clear when they're talking about it so we know what they mean.

I go by big chip because it's the day I can remember. I can recall the exact date of my last relaxer but I count it when all relaxed ends were cut

When I finally BC at the end of the year, my natural hair will be at WL. It would be silly for me to say - "I've been natural for 6 months and I already made Hip Length", even though it would be true!

I'd only use my BC date if I had a very short transition.

I'll go by my last relaxer date - first of June, 2009.

I'm throwing in my transition towel next summer. So, I'll use my last relaxer date (May 2010) as my reference point. I will explain that I had a long transition, though.

I go by last relaxer because I am trying to get a better sense of my average annual growth rate.

I bc'd so that's what I go by. That's a really good question. I'd think it was the day of your last perm because that's the day you became natural also.

I go by the date that all the relaxed ends were off my head.

Me too and I don't consider anyone with relaxed hair on their head a natural. If you transitioned for three years then cut your hair you have not been natural for three years, IMO.

I go by last relaxer, I did not BC nor do I plan to. I cut off ends randomly. I believe most of the previously permed hair is cut off but who knows. I think it silly to say i'm not natural if i have a few (possibly 100 out of thousands) tiny permed ends hanging in somewhere amongst the frizz and curls. I try to treat my hair as healthy as possible, I have not used heat (no blow dry, no sit under dryer no hot comb) in near a yr and a half so I'm natural dammit!!! JK

I go by the date I cut off the relaxed ends. However, I also mention my transition time. I personally did not feel my hair was 100 percent natural until I cut the relaxed ends off. So going by my cut date works for me.

April 1st 2007. I had taken my braids down and was disgusted with the limp, lifeless remainder of my last relaxer from October 2006. I wet my hair and got to hacking...subsequent trims to get the hair I couldn't by DH & my Mama finished off the job!

I go by BC date, but thats because I didnt transition for long, and didnt plan it so dont quite remember the last relaxer date.

I dont think it really makes a difference unless you transitioned. If I had less than 8 wks or so new growth, that isnt much of a difference and thats whats regularly there in between touch ups anyway.
